I'm purchasing a fuel tank and lines for my stock 318 1972 Demon... I've seen vent and non vent gas tanks... Which one do I want / need / get..?
Also, not sure on fuel line size, etc.. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
John

I went with the 3/8 fuel line for my duster. I may be wrong, but, there are two diffrent sizes I believe.

Before you change fuel tank lines and then frame rail lines- what are you running? If stock engine the factory 5/16” set up is good. 3/8” upgrade is better and 1/2” is for a sick individual with high HP fuel needs.
Remember that if you change one part then follow thru with the whole system. Pick up to frame rail lines to filter to fuel pump to carb.

Also a vented tank is scary with out a roll over check valve built in. If you were spending money- do it smart. Be safe, this new style fuels evaporate at a disgusting alarming rate and the by product is water so the more you can seal the system up the better.

yes you do but there are pressure check valves now to allow air to replace the used fuel one way but will not allow vapor out the other way.
Can you explain what I need to purchase then..? Never thought I'd be so difficult just replacing tank and lines..lol

It is not difficult. Just replace the tank and lines. Honestly don’t over think it. Original post asked for help in a few areas- we always try to give you a few options on here. Lol! If you want stock then figure out what your car has stock and order that. Not every car is the same. YOU need to do the leg work - call the company you want to purchase from and ask for help on how to tell the difference so you order properly. This way you will learn as well as having a safe new system. Let us know how you make out.

I am the OP.. and I consider this doing "leg work"..lol
That's is a part of what this forum is here for.
I have reached out to a couple of vendors/restoration places.. They weren't all that sure as to which tank I needed too..
You're absolutely right though, I over think this stuff too much..
It's been 30 plus years since I wrenched on and played with a car like this...back then, I swapped parts all the time without any worries.. Things seem a lot more technical now, so many options...and maybe that's part of the information overload we have now.
I was just asking here for the direct, "here's exactly what you need" answers from people who are knowledgeable, experienced and more than happy to share.. I see it ALL OVER this site and others where people ask, and get the answer they need.
I will keep you posted though..!

If you stick to stock, the tank "depending on state if origin' could have early evap, tank vent to crankcase etc... like 3 lines. If you want to xnay all that ...just get a regular tank without vent and use a vented gas cap.

Yes there are. I was just stating you still have to vent it. I see a number of cars with no vents when things get switched around. Doesn't a Demon have a vent off the fuel tank filler? I thought they did unless they were Ca.
