Need new gas tank + whole system. Advice?

I made me a part list. It will be well over 1.000$ until I have the stuff here in Germany. (with shipping, tax)
So I decided to remove the tank before I place the order and see what I really need. Maybe I don't need a new filler neck for example.
My question is how exactly is the filler neck attached to the tank?
Can I remove the tank without losen the filler neck?
Just unplug the lines and wires and remove the two metal straps which hold the tank and I'm done?
Can I simply pull the tank away from the filler neck?
BTW, how did your car get to Germany??

Thanks, it was imported to Germany from California. Ran the whole life in LA. I bought it from a classic car dealer who did the import.
