I also want to add that I had a really short element in my air cleaner as in the spring I put a phenolic spacer under the carb. I measured this out and I believe there was only about 1/4" of room between the vents on the carb and, the air cleaner lid. Long story short I was able to get a taller element to fit under the hood and, that gave me more clearance between the carb vents and the lid and, I'm sure that helped also.
