Yup I did it. I got to lookin at a distributor core today and said to myself, "hell, why not?" So I tore it down, chunked the guts in purple stuff to clean um all up and blasted the housing. Got everything cleaned up good and inspected what I had. Bushings like new. The "smallest" degree governor I had was a cussfired 15L. Dang. 30* advance at the crank. Bummer. Ok, so I welded the governor slots up and filed um back out to .340 which will give 6* mechanical at the distributor and 12* mechanical at the crank. Perfect. Yeah. You ain't seeing things. That's an electronic slant 6 distributor. Hell's freezin over yall. Now all I need is a new vacuum can for it and blue streak cap and rotor and we're done. I'd love to find a Mopar Chrome Box, but they're hard to come by and everybody wants a pile for um, so I'll come up with somethin. I might put it in Vixen's current engine. It'll go in the unicorn head motor for sure. Whoda thunk it?

Oh and fer sprAngs, I used one light and one medium. That usually gets the curve bang on.
 
Hell to the yeah! Nothing more satisfying then using what ya got laying around the shop. I will admit some of your work is lost on me cause I do good to get a limiting plate and springs back in one and have it work, lol. But I'm learning.

I thought about getting another limiter plate. But we're broke right now and 35 bucks is a lot of money. I kinda looked at my mig welder and said "yeah". LOL

The length of the slots. I found a chart over on the slant6 forum. The stock 15L had .475 length slots and gives 30* at the crank. I welded them up and filed them back out to .340 which gives 12* at the crank.

Nice work! Sounds like fun! Im gonna be doing the same soon. I have a junk locked up dissy I'm gonna pull apart and try to rebuild myself. It needs a new pickup the wires are cut off even. I figured it would be a good little learning experience for my oldest son. We have been doing alot of little projects to get him to learning! Last week we did carb rebuilds we rebuilt a Nikki carb for my lawn mower
 
I have a degree wheel that I adapted to the top of the dist, if I can find the pictures I will post them.

Those guys over on the org site have done it trial and error. I'm sure it's close enough. If you're makin sure I'm not too stupid to figure out how to test it, I have a mathematical protractor, so I can measure it.

That works, too. I've done the same thing with one before, but I like the protractor better. I'd like to see your idea though.
 
Here you go. There's how much it has....."however" much that is. It ain't much. I caint find my damned protractor, of course. I'll go out in a bit and grab my degree wheel. That'll tell me. It looks pretty dang close , though.

I wanted a lot more initial timing so I got to work. I used a small old degree wheel I had laying around. I made a adapter on the lathe to connect the degree wheel to the dist.

I don't remember what I used to lock the shaft to the housing, probably a hose clamp. I ended up with 11 degrees at the dist, that equals 22 at the crank and was just what I wanted.

This is what I started with and had to change to 11 degrees.
apparently I don't have that picture.
 
I went out and grabbed my degree wheel and measured 6* with the tape measure and then measured the marks on the distributor I made. Exactly the same. I will have 12* of mechanical advance at the crank. Yay me. I got somethin right. I'm surprised. LOL

The photo in post #1 almost looks like the distributor has been painted that light purple color like the Road Runner horns, but I guess it's just the light.
