Export Feder Tag Repro?

Y09 and the E prefix VON number actually indicate 'Overseas order', IE, any car order received from overseas.

Some cars were ordered for sales in overseas countries, but many of what some consider 'export' cars never left the USA.

Chrysler had a Military sales division. This allowed any US service personnel an opportunity to order a new car and have it delivered for them at any dealership of their choice - in the United States.

So it was possible for a Navy guy serving in Japan to order a new car, and have it shipped to a California dealership near the Naval base he was returning to. He could pick up his new car and drive it home to Milwaukee. (that is just one possible example of many)

BUT, if the car was from a year where there were 49-state cars and California cars many servicemen would have the car delivered to the nearest state that is NOT California. I heard the story of a guy who had his late 80s Mustang delivered to Reno instead of the Bay Area (stationed at Moffitt in Mountain View).
