Putting my 727 together and went to air check the front clutch before putting it back in the case. Noticed it was leaking air by and not engaging the clutches. Found it Is blowing air out of a hole ok the back of the clutch drum I can cover the hole with my finger and it engages like it should. Comparing it to the front clutch in a 727 I have for parts that hole isn't there and it air checks just fine. and it looks like it may have been put there for some reason. Any idea on why it's there or is it a junk peice now?

I think there should be a check ball in there.

Or used wrong inner or outer lip seals. I think there's a short one and a long one, must not be mixed up. They go in different positions in later trans, maybe early are the same design.

I havent changed the seals on it yet I was trying to test it. I changed the clutches and steels that was about it when I found that hole trying to test it

You need to have the direct drum on the forward drum and input. Then the pump on top of that. Then the coresponding holes can be checked. That stuff has to "seal together" first to air check.

Assemble it as if it were in the case. Then air check the appropriate holes in the pump.

Ok. Are you using all parts put of a known working trans?

A freezer and some large rubber bands will be your friend on the blind lip seal of the drums...

that drum was used in a trans brake application, they require the extra small hole to bleed off fluid from the front drum, to quicken the trans brake action. use a different drum for your trans

Ok gotcha thanks a bunch i got paper work with this car it came in and I remember it saying something about a trans brake... good to know. I plan on racing the car it's going in. If I wanted to keep the trand brake option I can use it and what els do I need to look for?

Many trans brake require that hole be added. One hole should be check valve and the other is a bleed hole for high pressure transbrake. If not using it for a brake, I would find another drum.
