My first car 72 Scamp

Years ago my car had been parked and not ran for a long time. Made a goal to make the Magic Dragon show at Lake of the Ozarks. Almost got it all done then found out my fan clutch was bad. No time to get one so I did a temporary flex fan that was readily available. 5+ years later, finally went back to the OE lol. Waited till after this year’s magic dragon before doing it though. Also a night and day difference driving 140 miles round trip with 2.76s and 3.92s. Got the wife and youngest to go with me to the show this time. And she even drove part of the way back. Been married for a long time and she’d never shown interest in driving the car till this year.

Got my heater and a/c delete bezel wrapped up. Got the vinyl from Detroit Muscle and am well-pleased. Just have to let it sit another day. You can see the before and after. It’s not perfect but I’m happy with it. I also picked up a radio delete plate. Anyone know what kind of fasteners I need to use on this thing to hold it to the bezel?

So when I was a kid my dad picked up a beat up mini bike, disassembled it, and had the wheels and frame powder coated. Had a seat made as the old one was shot. Then as many projects do, it was put to the side in favor of others. Recently my dad gave it for me and my my youngest to finish up. We always imagined a Super Bee theme when I was younger and stuck with that idea. We put in a little 3 HP Predator engine, found a clutch and throttle, replaced all the hardware, and got it dialed in. Just needs the chain guard modified to fit and then painting of the seat springs. The badges finally came in and we’ve been having a blast with it. Growing up going to the Nationals and seeing the guys riding around on mini bikes always made me want one for myself. Was a neat little project for me and the boy. Grandpa is happy it finally got done 20+years later.

Radio delete plate arrived today. Found an NOS one on eBay. I think for 71-72? From my understanding 73+ was filled in at the bezel and there weren’t any plates but I could be wrong. This will go well with my heat and ac delete. Just need to paint it.

These plates are hard to find. I have one too. It was a NOS piece from South America found on ebay. I sent it out to be restored and installed it. Nice radio plate as well.

lol. I mean if it’s any consolation my family comes out maybe 10% of the time. They’re really pretty indifferent really.

Woah that’s awesome! I wonder where this one came from. Not many places I imagine would offer neither heat or a/c. You got it installed?

Yeah, was on ebay but shipped from Costa Rica.....the package looked like it was opened a bunch of times.they prob. Thought it was drugs
 
Back wheels finally powder coated. I do wish now with the 14s that I had added a +1 inch leaf spring instead of stock height. Oh well.

Car has been smoking out the right exhaust real bad. I’ve been driving it a little but not much due to it smoking and getting worse. The two pics of the plug that is gunked up is #6 cylinder. The other pics are the others on the same side. We’re thinking likely bad valve seals and possibly head gasket. Gonna do a leak down test and compression test. The top of the piston is caked up. Hoping nothing wrong with the bottom end. May end up using this as a chance for some 302 heads.

Car has been smoking out the right exhaust real bad. I’ve been driving it a little but not much due to it smoking and getting worse. The two pics of the plug that is gunked up is #6 cylinder. Quick temporary fix, use two heat ranges hotter plug

Confirmed by looking at another piston that triangle isn’t a crack. Just markings for install.
 
triangle indicates the side of the piston that should face the front of the car
 
Compression tested fine. Valve seals bad. Valves were also rattling I found out. Located a set of 302 heads with bigger 1.88/1.60 valves put in. Waiting to pick up. Will port them. Also found these Hedman headers for a good price while I’m in there. Plan to port match my performer intake as well. Looked into options of eventually running FAST series, but decided would have a separate and dedicated build for that with a 340. In the meantime, gonna see what this 318 can do.
