I just bought a 68 cuda today and will be starting a restoration after I get my garage built , I was wondering how hard it is to put a 440 in it , it has a 318 now , I know a 340 will bolt up but they are getting scarce with a low budget build . I had a 69 when I was 18 , 318 3 on the tree and will be 64 shortly , I guess I just don't buy that " you can never go back crap " it has an automatic on the floor and would also like to know if the console will support a 4 speed if I change it or if I have to add a piece to the tunnel, more to follow after i get a chance to look at it better , does have some rust holes under drivers door but not where anything bolts on , has some rust on bottoms of door and fenders but I don't know yet if there is any putty but with all the windows, chrome , bumpers and seats in place the 4500 price is pretty good price.

Can I ask why a 440 is it for 1/4 mile speed. Are you looking at driving it for fun. There is nothing wrong with a 318 worked over you can get some good numbers from it. When I first got my 67 it had a /6 in and I bought a 400 to put in it before I researched everything I was going to have to do. I ditched that and went with a small block. I’m not saying any wrong with putting in the 440. I’m just saying to look at all your options and what you really expect out of the car. 1 mans opinion, more opinions to follow. Good luck. Send the pictures or it’s not real

I wanted a 340 because thats what I wanted when I was 18 , I just like the power , i've seen worked 318's and they are ok but still don't have the power of the 340 . just thinking 440 because they are more plentiful and less money . Don't really plan on racing alot but I grew up in a small town full of mopars 440, 383 , 440 and hemi's and never got to have one , now I will . plus I have a grandson interested in muscle cars instead of rice burners and need to impress.

I have a 383 in a 67 barracuda and exhaust wise is the toughest part really. Keep 700-1K in mind. (TTI) Also, the cooling factors. I see a lot of guys posting success with factory 7 blades with a proper shroud and radiator. Do a little home work over in the Big Block thread. Big Block Dart is another source of info. Obstacles can also include Z bar/clutch. I went hydraulic, but again that adds up into $$.

Saying all this, I am looking forward to running a 360 LA factory roller block out of a 1990 truck.

Welcome! AND WE want pics Brah!

I'll get some pictures when I have a little time and if I can figure out how to load them me and computers have an understanding , if they don't piss me off I won't smash them. On another note when I start buying body panels rockers , fenders , quarter panels where is the best place to look , this is going to be a nice looking car to have fun with , I have no interest in perfect factory correct show cars , I don't know what part s I will need yet until
i get the paint removed. Thanks for the input , I'm sure there will be more questions. fyi the last build was a pair 87 buick turbo regals in 1989 one was stripped and the parts car for the driveline was burnt, won't do one of those again.

I just found a 1974 340 for a good price , to build to 68 specs would I need different heads and pistons or something more and will it bolt up to the 68 transmission ?
