Mystery lamp ?

So I am under my dash cleaning up my wiring and I find this wire floating around loose . Its an orange 18 gauge wire ... I look it up in the FSM and it says LAMP.
Which lamp ?
This is coming out of the turn signal switch connector on the column . Cavity #5.

I checked it with a test light and it dims with the gauge panel . But what lamp should it connect to ?
 
CFD244 may be right. Might be an ignition key switch illumination light & wasn't on the cars "light package" when it was ordered? If it dims with the gauge panel, that is probably what it's for.
 
Not all plugs in the harness were used, it depends on the cars options.
 
Well if it wasn't before it will be now !

Where do the wires go to on the other side of the conector ( E2 , E2A)?

By the way, what car, what year?


PRND21 light ( that's my bet)

It is on the column side of the connector
Only thing in the column that lights is PRND21 and later years maybe ignition switch light.

it's a power wire related to the instrument light circuit.
 
I'm using the 68 FSM and tracked the wire to the radio. lol
 
We're fishing here, high beam indicator lamp ?
 
Orange is instrament panel and radio light power.

The other thing it powers is the PRND21 indicator on the column

Everything fits,

The bulb is on the steering wheel side of the connector
The bulb is on the orange dimmable dash light cir
If you have a stick or console shift it is not used.
If you have auto on the column it would be used

I have a ignition lamp with the blue covering . I believe it is NOS but not sure of the application ... probably C-Body . I will see if I can find a way to use it or just get a mild led and mount it on the bezel hole above the key .
 
I prefer the PDF and print out the pages I need. Zoom in on things etc.

BTW it is the PRND21 light if column auto
 
Floor shift car . Light comes from a different circuit .

The point of this thread was that the FSM didnt tell you what the light was... just that it was a light .
But I am thankfull for the feedback because now I will have a key light . And its a great feed for tach lights !
