What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

Well, now that the 72 Demon's 408 is "good enough for now," it's time to start on the 340 for the 71 Demon. So I hauled it out from the back of the garage where it's been dutifully sitting for the past 28 years since I pulled it and started the teardown today.

The plan is just to freshen it up before putting it back in the car where it came from. Nothing fancy, just pretty much a stock rebuild. It'll go back in here...

I am a bit concerned what I might find in terms of rust in the engine after sitting so long. So I pulled the intake to have a look...and lo and behold...

I was quite happy to see that other than a tad of surface rust on the pushrods, the cam looks like I just stuck it in there!! That's really good 'cause I can now reuse it. It's the old DC 284/484 hydraulic that sounds pretty nice. I'll get the heads off soon to see what I find in the cyl bores. The plan is to do a total cleaning/rebuild of the engine using as much of what is in it as possible. The car is not a race car - will be used for cruises and shows. So not real fast...somewhat of a sheep in wolve's clothing so to speak. But that's how the car came originally so that's what it's gonna be. Amazing how simple this engine is compared to the 408 I just put together and installed in the 72 car. Hope it stays this way throughout the (re)build and install!!
