Good morning from The winter(summer)nationals in Pomona. Just about to get started.

Look for the green 340 duster running in stock eliminator. Justin Jerome, he is a good racer and has won a national event before.

From the "crowd" it's easy to see why a lot of strips are dying. Glad yall went. Looks like a good time.

In Pomona it is 88 degrees and no shade. The stands are aluminum and really heat up in the sun. Lots of people are traveling to other places before school opens up in a few weeks. NHRA is trying to get the Winternationals done in the summer and so they are running the big boys ($$) later in the day in order to have the flame throwing nitro cars run their finals in the dark like in the old days. I am watching it on a local channel here and only one side of the stands have spectators widely dispersed. I wouldn’t call it a crowd either.

The crowd was definitely smaller than the last few years. They sold no tickets for the north bleachers for some reason. I think the heat had more to do with it than anything. Maybe a little covid also keeping people at home. It was 92 ambient and track temp got to 140 degrees. Hottest they’ve seen and had to tune for.

Ours opened in 1956. Cordova Dragway

Interesting that Julesburg Dragway touts the title of oldest track in the NHRA started in 59….

Back in the late 70's /early 80's a bunch of us from the Greeley Colorado Area would go there and race. It was part of the Municipal Airport at the time. Heard story's about shutting down races on occasion to let a small plane land although it never happened while we went. Well ran track

Also Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado has been in the same location and ran by the Bandimere Family since 1958.
