The early A body car bucket seats have the habit, of the seat back flying forward on a quick stop. Has anyone attempted to cure this problem without replacing the seat with a non-stock seat?

No, I just try to leave a lot more stopping distance so I don't have to slam on the brakes! :steering::lol:

I can't imaging it happening enough to where I would want/need to modify my seats.

You would have to add in a latch. My 66 buckets doen't have a latch but my 70 bench does. Get inventive!

There is actually a spring on the inside hinge to prevent this but they wear? out. If there, you can stretch them a bit back to their original shape/length. Almost every upholstery shop I've been to over the years loses them when redoing the seats. You have to remove the seat back from the base and look down inside the pivot/hinge area to see if your spring is still there.

I haven't physically taken my 66 buckets apart but pulling them out for upholstery and such, there is no lock mechanism there. I haven't paid close attention to 67-8-9 seats to see if they have a seat back lock. I know the split backs on my 70 bench seat has a lock/lever.

Agree with toolmanmike that '66-'67 seats did not come with them. '62-'65 passenger seats did. Attached is a pic of one. It sits down in the recess of the seat back pivot tabs on the seat base. The top of pic is the top of the part installed. The tip of the seat back mounting flange/pivot arm rests in the dip and had to overcome the spring tension/high spot behind the dip to flip forward. Willing to lend part to vendor interested in remaking them. Same "spring" is used in all "A", "B", and ""C" body buckets for years specified earlier.
