Timing chain guides?

So I am getting ready to install my new cloyes 3028x timing chain set (double roller). I then realized I did not purchase a timing chain guide (tensioner). I read at one time I didn’t want to use a guide with a double roller chain because the guides let off plastic.? Is my logic off? I am installing in a 2001 magnum 360. I’m second guessing because factory had one installed I’m sure for a reason. Advice would be appreciated.
 
The factory installed timing chain tensioners on the 3.9l V6s, and with the "silent chain"- I've never seen one factory installed on a Magnum V8, although people regularly use them. You'll get recommendations from both sides of the fence on this one, don't use them/use them. A good quality timing chain with no slack shouldn't need one; but if you've had any line boring/honing done, you may. Your choice, but I will say this: if you do use one, get a good one; the quality of the plastic used for the rubbing blocks can vary.
 
I wish I could find the thread but it's been so long that it might be on Moparts or another forum. It basically described HOW to use one with a double roller. I think it described how to groove the plastic pre-installation so it wouldn't self-clearance and leave bits of plastic in your engine. Also told what size hole to drill in plate for oiling.

Am I remembering the wrong stuff or does someone have the info on thi?
 
I had two Magnums built over the years: One with the tensioner, one without. Made no difference.
