It was a reaction if he called me cupcake to my face he would have bleeding gums right now i did see the err of my ways and edit but its saved for posterity now...:)

For me, this is where these threads end up. the Uncle Tony threads are a hoot...:)

problem is there is always someone willing to distort the truth and will try get forceful about it. I don't stand for that chit...

Me, always been to too poor or too cheap to be a racer. So.. after a few decades
Stock:
My slants..could hardly wear them out.
My 318s kept me from walking. Sounded better than the slant.
Stock 340s even the AARs and TAs, ran OK with the good gear, just OK
The 360 in the 3/4 ton,,,pulled a little trailer Ok
My 95 Cummins 1 t, pulls a big trailer good
My 383 RR and Bees, ran pretty good/ with good gear
My 440 Chargers ran ok. needed more gear;;rater have the 383
My 426 Hemis, seemed to be a smidge faster than the B or RBs. Too darn expensive,, sold those suckers off.
Now days IF I find a decent runni:rofl:ng motor, any motor, for cheap.... I am so tickled!!!

...call me names in an internet thread ..and I'll kill ya,...:)
ok, Im out...you guys are no fun at all. Im heading ove rot the Fox body foorum

LOL... Reading through the past few post, I can tell they are talk'n to somebody I can't see. I have a certain member on ignore because I've not seen a common sense post come from him. Just hate, words, and endless babblings. LOL

I've pretty much liked almost every engine Dodge put into cars from 1954 - present in the rear wheel drive cars... (I said almost due to a few late model stuff - after 1999). Baby 241 hemi's, Poly's, all the slants, LA's and magnum small blocks, V6 magnum, and the new hemi's, 3.6 V6..... yep, them all some good mules !

2 years of small block race thread should be enough real world inffo for all who want to put a motor together. 340/360 penalty bore penalty was stiff.

how about this , i give you 2 running engines( not motors no teslas in this thread) , a 318 and a 340 with a 3000.00 pile o cash , which engine would you pick to build with the 3000.00 ?

I think I have 300 hp in my 750 dollar 318 lock, stock, and barrel. Anyone have a 100% stock 340 and wanna race??? equal gears, no headers. I'm game! I have less in my entire motor, including the 2 4bbls sitting on top than you'd have in just the block for a 340. And I think I'm in for the win ! Been beating the tar out of it for 6 yrs and counting.... :)

Why should the 340 run the same gear as you? Why not optimize what the 340 has? This is the problem with threads like this. You want to bang your own drum and then mak rules that favor you. That’s grade school playground stuff.

Ok, I'll take the 4.30's and the 340 gets 2.76's.. That better than same gears??? LOL you want the 340 to get better gears than my 318. Same gears favor me??? :D :D :D Seriously, step back and look at what you wrote.... You want to show a stock 340 can beat my 318 by giving it better gears to optimize it... :D You don't think gears would optimize my 318?? Next you'll want the 318 to be in a maxi van vs the 340 Duster... Good Grief !

Gear each one whatever you want. I don’t understand why you want to hamstring one combo to make yourself look better. If I show up with 4.30’s and you show up with 3.55’s that’s on you. You make rules like a politician. If your stuff is that well tuned and fast you show up and run who is next to you.

I thought we were talking if a guy has 3k which engine will best perform for that money. 318 or 340. BUT.... if you want to see if the 340 for 3k can beat the 318 for 3k, then you have to give them everything else equal. I would show nothing by giving the 318 a 8" converter, 4.56 gears, slicks, and running a stock 340 with stock converter, and an open 3.23 gear, Savvy Mate ???? Or would you walk away and say "yep, 318's are faster".... LOL

No, you play mental gymnastics. That’s what they do on “Engine Masters”. Freiberger loves to make things “fair” which is what you try to do and it’s senseless. Would you cam a wedge and a Hemi the same? No way I’d do that, but that what DF did and the Hemi looked stupid. Why didn’t he cam each engine accordingly? Because the Hemi would have slaughtered that wedge. That would have been bad. So your goofy budge and silly “fair” rules are designed to make the outcome you want exactly what you want. So you win. The 318 is the god of all engines. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to build the best geometry of any SBM ever. You win. /thread.

340 hands down. That's about like asking would I rather have 10 bucks or a 100 buck for free.

P.S. - why do they call motor mounts "motor" mounts??

Make it up as they go and shove it down your throat when you disagree...hmm that is vaguely familiar for some reason...:)

.... And to get this thread back on track, and for those that struggle to comprehend what is being asked here, I'll keep it super simple:

A guy has a '73 Duster, 3.21 gears, 727. He says I have 3k to buy and build an engine, street car but want to hot rod it and run it at the drag way for fun. Here are the choices:
  • Free running 318 2bbl
  • 1500 complete minus intake and carb 340 core - we'll say it's a good core
Now, which do you pick to get him his best ET in the 1/4 mile for his 3k ?

Don't like the choices? Great! Click off the thread :)

To make room for a 318/392 stroker!
318s respond to the same mods as all the other small block Mopars. ...
NOTHING wrong with a 318.....mine will be a little screamer.
I could have gotten a few more inches by stroking a larger block....Hell, I could have gone big block.....but my stroked 318 will be around 450HP/450TQ - I'm cool with that and my core cost $100.

I just don't get all the 318 hate out there.....I said it before and I'll say it again. ...ya'll need to chill the F out!

so you are saying a furd or chuby is better than any slopar because you can build them faster and cheaper

I see where you are coming from, but not the same. If you want to compare a 302 vs a 351C, then you'd have the same arguement. 351C to the Ford guys is the faster engine, but can you buy and build it to go faster than a 302 for 3k ???? That would be a great question on a Ford forum...

Just a picture from a bench racing session last night. Not sure which one of us had the faster combo. I was rocking some Kentucky Rabbit finished in a sherry cask. The bottle was small no doubt, but it was wound tight and produced some serious knock your Dick in dirt HP. But then…..was it torque actually and not HP? Totally not related, but you guys opened it with beer combos! Hah! Happy Friday all, run what ya brung! Just don’t leak in your lane!
