Sure, they wanted Jeep, but that wasn't all.
They wanted to refresh their engineering department, which had grown stagnant.
AMC Engineering's influence could be seen throughout Chrysler's product development for years after, from the LA redesign into the Magnum engines, to the development of the V10; both the truck and the Viper versions.
AMC's acquisition also gave Chrysler a share of Rennault (okay, could be considered good or bad...) and it's extended European network.
