We all agree with this but it is nice to know when you are close so you are not spinning a dry trans while you fill it.
I.E. if the FSM says 12 quarts (just a number I made up) then you should be safe to put 10 in and start the engine, read the dip stick, Add another, then maybe another, till the dipstick is at the right point. Needs to be hot to measure correctly too!
