Electric guitar...

-
Okay 6 weeks progress report... Never basically touched a guitar in my life nor any other musical instrument and disregarding the clarinet that I was forced to play in grade school and hated it and did terrible because of it...
So far I'm still noodling but trying to practice certain rifts and also fingering exercises. Figuring out I need some more strumming exercises as well...
I have about five or six songs that I know and practice.. of course that's just partial riffs of course.. complete songs are a little bit of a stretch yet.. also I found repeatedly playing one song can get boring quite quick...
I recently found about the g tuning and Keith Richards and five string guitars and that kind of stuff. Which led to some black crows stuff... Which gave me a little enthusiasm when I could play a couple of those licks...
I have a free second guitar coming hopefully. The story behind that is as I was cleaning out that room to make a music room outspilled this old gift card from 6 years ago when my wife and I got married. It had so many things available we kept putting it off cuz we couldn't decide what we wanted. But now I pull it out and pretty much the services mostly expired but left five options.. one of them was an electric guitar LOL my wife said go for it.. so I went ahead and ordered it..
I was thinking I would make that my five string g guitar...
Anyways still practicing daily, and I did have a little funk a few days ago for a couple days where I wasn't really into it but still forced myself to go back and at least play scales or noodle with it for a minute... Which always turns into quite a few minutes....

Sounds like your making good progress! I went to buy me a new delay pedal a few days ago and started looking at the new guitars and I picked up this HSS player stratocaster and it spoke to me, I couldn't believe the quality of the new Mexican strats, needless to say, it followed me home, oh well, I'll have to save up again for my delay pedal!

Yes I would like to get a strat as well and five string it with the g tune...

My aunt in Florida has the guitar she got with her 2006 beetle... When I visit her I want to check it out and try and play it. I already sent her a $50 amp from amazon. I'm wondering how I'll hook it up as I believe it may have a smaller hookup on one end of the cord to hook into the car?? . I know it talks about a 9-volt battery that has some kind of booster or something...

I started playing around 1998. Never got really interested in it until I broke down and bought a real Gibson les paul. Trying to learn on cheap guitars is frustrating. I was amazed at how much better I got in a very short time after getting the Gibson. I now have 5 Gibson LP's and three marshall amps.
If you stick with it and are still interested in 6 months, I would recommend investing in a nice instrument. Find something US made if you can afford it.

I have about four $100 Epiphones (Gibson's budget line) that I play as often as I do my $600 (list, I paid $225) Schecter.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that Schecter (and it's Floyd Rose trem), I just play the others and there's nothing wrong with them.

J Par's got a Jackson.

He's good to go on quality.

Yes, they are nice. the price went up though . I believe they are $600-$650 ish? The Mexican standard used to be $499. I have both an older standard from 2011 and a player I bought when they came out in 2018 I believe. I paid $649 in 2011 and $600 for the player in 2018. I have gigged with both, and like that they are good playable gig worthy guitars but not high end. OP if you aare so inclined and ready ,check out Musicians friend or Sweetwater, get a credit line. You can buy a higher end guitar sometimes for 6 or 12 months same as cash.

They are $779.00 now for the HSS version, but now they have better alnico pickups. I've had several older Mexicans with the ceramic pickups in the past and I liked them even. I had a Gibson les paul standard and I sold it, it was a 1992 model, I didn't like it, probably just got a bad one but that ruined me on them, I took it to a professional to have it set up better and there was no adjustment left on the truss rod.

Anything I have is paid for or I save and buy cash... Everything...

I got a shocking surprise today! LOL that guitar that I thought if it ever got here would be here in a few weeks was here when I got home!!....
I pulled it out and I'm very pleasantly surprised it's a metallic gold!!..
I immediately run down to the music shop and get a strap for it and a holder..
Come back home and plug it in and tune the strings...
Holy smokes this thing has a huge amount of sound that comes out of it...
As a matter of fact I almost have to hold the strings to make it not make noise...
I noticed the front ends are a little sharper than on my Jackson.. I guess this is called an Austin classic?... It has four knobs instead of two like my Jackson and I'm pretty certain it's the two for the back are for the back pickup in the two for the front or for the front pickup.. again though this makes one huge amount of more sound...

nice looking axe, I’m glad to hear it’s got a strong presence, LP’s are known for that as well. That should give you something to play with.

It's really odd how it feels and how different it sounds... But like you said fun.. it makes my distortion settings extremely personified compared to the Jackson...

I like the feel of my Jackson but I like the sound of the Austin. Almost like I'd like to put the Austin pickups in the Jackson...

Bought a electric guitar...
Gets here Wednesday...
I need something to keep my brain busy..
Overnight sensation... NO...
Next Eddy Han Halen... NO...
From what I can research on the internet if I was to play it a half hour a day it would probably take 3 months just to be able to be at beginner level and then intermediate level would probably be somewhere in the one year to two years..
And to be pretty good with it probably looking at 4 years. And expert probably a lot longer than that...
And all of that is probably playing at least a half hour every single day...
Generally I'm a fast learner and I don't tend to have a lot of give up in me so I'm seeing where these two immovable forces will take me..
Anyways I'd like to give it a try which is more than I've done in the past...
I'm wondering if anybody else has went down this road and how far they got?...
Cool. I've been playing since the mid 80s, played for 2 signed bands, wrote and performed my own music (and lyrics) much of what is a prediction, or warning of current events. Also was givin air time on 98 Rock( biggest Station) here in Tampa Bay. I still am learning. If you want to get really good , practice alot. And develop appropriate appreciation for other music that ain't yer favorite. If you like country, learn a lil Bluegrass ,if you are a raging Metal Head, dig some classical, If yer a bluesman, maybe jazz. But it does help to learn the basics first. But if you like pop, learn your 3 chord money riffs.. if you like rap and hip-hop,well, maybe learn Rave / dance elements? Who lnows

Well, our lil Friends from down there do have some pride in their work. Some of them love our cars some of them love our guitars most everything I've seen built from there, beat the **** out of some crap from China

Welcome to the world of "gee, this one sounds different and feels different.....and I like it. Therefore I must have it. But I still like the old one(s), so I will keep them. All of them."

I have 11 now, not counting the 2 basses.

I've financed quite a few guitars that way. Same as cas no interest if paid in the time allotted. Usually 6 months. I have a few se.u high end guitars that way a few artis series. Its the same money only I don't wait 6 months for the guitar I don't have to play cheap Chinese **** either..if you pay cash great you are either rich or have used **** the rest of us don't live that way thats not the way this country works a new truck costs a years salary...

To this day, I still regret trading away my first real guitar, a 1984 Squire Strat.

84 was the last year the tooling was identical for the USA and Japanese made Fenders, and
the only difference between Fender and Squire was made in USA vs made in Japan.

Well I won't hit the disagree button here and start a stink, but I'm neither rich nor do I have used s*** LOL... Nor do I have a brand new truck... I can't afford a brand new truck and don't want to wait 8 years to pay for one cash.. if you look at my thread on restoration part of the Forum I do have a 74 that I'm doing a frame off restoration on $500 at a time in lieu of a brand new track. My plan is to put all the modern conveniences in it...
As far as the new good guitar goes I would much rather just wait a couple months and save my money and buy something... But I do have this keeping the horse in front of the carriage mindset where I'd like to learn how to play the two that I have more than a few string riffs before I go spending two three k on a new guitar...
Again please keep posting I'm not trying to start a stink like I said I'm just not into credit that much... Or or the in order to be an American you have to be in debt attitude that seems to plague society these days...

FYI-

You can raise and lower the pickups in relation to the strings.
That's what the screws on the sides do.
Putting the magnetic pole pieces closer will give a hotter sound.
