Little story on the news this week

I guess there was a ticking noise under the hood of a 2021 corvette, so the owner brought it in to the dealer to have it fixed

It turned out to be a faulty plug wire and after it was fixed, the mechanic took it out for a test drive ... something which the car recorded

Right around the 8.35 mark you can see the corvette passing a charger which is in the left hand lane

I guess the charger took offense and passed the corvette on the right

The corvette gave pursuit...

And the dealership bought the owner a new Corvette to make up for it

well this makes a lot of sense now, all the idiots around here driving like that at night are just techs making sure they fixed everything

I gotta related story......

I had a friend who did something similar years ago when he was a service advisor at a local dealership. Only it was a Charger he test drove. He basically did the same thing, but the CUSTOMER saw him flying down Watson BLVD in Warner Robins, Georgia and CALLED 911. They pulled him over from doing 120 plus and took his dumb *** to jail.

I said HAD a friend......it's a long story there....but suffice it to say, I've helped him out so much and he was always there to take advantage of it. One of those.....but not anymore.

You Guys in the U.S. don't know how lucky you are! In Australia if you get caught doing more than 40kph over the speed limit your licence is cancelled on the spot and your car is impounded for a minimum of three months. The fine would be over two and a half thousand and all towing and impound cost have to be paid by you before you get the car back. Yes 40 kph is about 25 mph. The same applies if you get caught doing a burnout and the cops don't even have to catch you in the act. Yes even as in this case your car was in a service centre and you were not driving it the car still gets impounded. I blame it on our silly pommy heritage!

in the Netherlands, it is 50 km/h and you automatically lose your license
i know this because i got clocked doing 103 in a 50 one day

Pretty much the same here in Manitoba. 30k over limit your explaining why you should keep your license which never happens and car impounded. DUI cost is around 12 grand by the time it’s all said and done car impounded for a year. Don’t get a second one in 5 years because it’s jail time.

Whoops! Busted! I used to work for a company that made mirrors for the BMW Z3 platform. They have a test track behind the plant that they test all the new cars on. It was tore up for repairs, so the techs were using the expressway right next to the plant to test on. More than one got a ticket for 120+ mph!!!

Where is all the traffic ? I think they have all moved up here to Boise !

I had cars well over 100 on test drives. But only if there was no traffic and the customer was ok with it . I discouraged customers from driving wrecklessly .

I like it.

I worked as an auto glass installer at a fancy glass shop when I was a kid. We did almost all hot rods and fancy sports cars.

My boss told me "when you test drive a car get on the freeway and get it up to 100 MPH, because that's what the customer will do and we dont want it to whistle."

:)

With the Vette, did the owner have it set to record or do the new vettes just do that all the time?
Amd what shitty tech DIDN'T know to turn off the data/video recording BEFORE "fixing" the car. That guy is an idiot.

You can bet all the techs are aware it now tho!

At what point did a mechanic become a technician? Was this away for the dealerships to glamorize their business. No malice intended just curious

We have two things in common Cope. I was in the auto glass trade for 18 years and my car came from San Jose and sold at Bona Sera Chrysler Plymouth

Could a "Technician" today be able to change points and condenser and set dwell especially on a duel point distributor? I'm sure there are a few but then again they wouldn't have a computer to diagnose the problem. No offense of course but some guys are just replacement artists.
