Is there a good primer (spray can) to stop cast iron engine parts from rusting? I'm using Mopar engine paint on the cast iron & steel engine parts, and need to find a primer that will take the heat and not allow rust to come thru from underneath. The paint is sticking, not peeling, but parts seem to get rusty looking after a while. And I know someone will say that Mopar paint is no good, but this bleed-thru happens with VHT engine paint too.

I use this stuff(not on engine) not sure how it stands up to engine heat?

I've never primed an engine. Once cleaned from the machine shop I paint them. Bare metal gets some RP. 65'

I use rustoleum rusty metal primer on my blocks and heads. It’s a pinkish purple color, seems to work well and holds up to the heat. Can be had in spray cans or brushable

I've had pretty good success with Permatex rust converter.

Clean it up as best you can first.

i epoxy primer all my engines followed by single stage urethane... beautiful results

Epoxy primer in cans at my local Discount/Advance.

BTW I've never had to treat or prime an engine block assembly and the paint sticks good and doesn't rust for years and years.

Provided it's cleaned good IE pressure washing and liberal de-greaser.

Rust-oleum has a 500 degree engine primer (249410) and a 2000 degree high heat primer (249340)
