Music today sucks!

Again, I agree there IS good music being made these days IF you go looking for it, not on current public radio. I was referring to the overall commercial music industry, musicians being produced on image rather than talent. I'm sure we can agree, the industry as a whole is not generating the same kind of talent it once was. And yes, my interests vary from Sonny James to Judas Priest, Patsy Kline to Bob Dylan. About the only thing I don't care for is rap and screaming death metal, anything else is fair game. I'm 44 years old, grew up listening to my parents music then found interests of my own. In my opinion there was fantastic music from the 40's, up to last 10 years or so. One of the biggest transitions in music I recall growing up was the transition in early 90's from hard rock/metal to the grunge Seattle type sound, that was a big change, good music though. I feel I am very open minded when it comes to music, but I just can't take auto tune and image replacing ability and soul. Music at one time was raw and full of emotion, a large percentage of studio music is rubber stamp, and difficult to perform live because it isn't real.

Wouldn't it be nice to see another hard rocking woman like Pat Benatar, or the Heart sisters? How about a story teller like Dylan, Harry Chapin, or Gordon Lightfoot?

Many greats in music refused to cave to the desires and demands of producers because they knew they had something good. What would Queen have become if they had folded on Bohemiam Rhapsody?

This post was not meant as an argument, rather an observation of the music industry and how it has changed. The fact there have been so many responses to this thread proves music is something near and dear to the hearts of many of us. I can state with fact, when certain music comes on, my whole day brightens to another level!

Great post, and I agree with most, except the argument part. I'm assuming that was directed at me, since you quoted me. My post wasn't to argue or start an argument. My post is only my opinion on the subject. Like I said keep an open mind because your mind is like a parachute if it ain't open it don't work. If people would look at it like that, they just might find some of today's music to actually be very good. Again . 02
