New stripper

I'm not sure if it's because it's new compared to the 1968 edition or if it's really brighter

After reading a thread by @Jim Kueneman I realized how much time I wasted goofing around.

I can only hope to become as productive as he. He is on his third resto and my daily driver dart still has crappy paint.....WTH
ok, fine :(...if your going to use Jim K as the bar to set your self against, there by stepping though that portal that few (in my opinion), ever will, i'll just keep watching from this side of the glass and enjoy the build . you mentioned "red stripe". that something to do with the paint or are you adding a stripe to the car, ala

It's brighter. I wasn't trying to be a negative nellie about the stripper. It works ok, my only qualm with it is that you have to be extremely careful and get it out of every nook and crannie. It doesn't mix well with fresh paint. lol

I was thinking red pinstripe at first just to dress it up a little but since it's a 100 trim level with absolutley no options. I'm thinking of a 60s librarian car now.

Maybe get some cat eye librarian glasses from the 60s and forget the stripe

Truth!
Get a pressure washer... Only way to really ensure the surface is super clean prior to anything else.
I also like to do a very thorough wipe down with lots of alcohol (on a rag, or just spray it on) or acetone prior to applying anything. Alcohol tends to be cheaper and less toxic though. I use a Chem bottle and hose nooks and crannies to really flush gunk away, then dry with compressed air for the final clean. That way you get the lint and stuff too, and ensure no trapped moisture.

The thing I like about paint stripper is that it doesn't tend to take away any galvanize or other steel coatings. Doesn't really apply to our cars, but in general it won't take away protective coatings the way blasting or acid etching will.

Its called "taking names and kicking ***"! Get 'er done.

I always thought it was "Kicking *** and taking names."

Anyone left standing name will be added to the list for next go round.

Well done princess. I like white cars and that toyota white is nice. The Dart will stay white even tho it was a B5 car orignaly. White is way more race car than a bright blue in my opinion.

Keep up the good work sister.

I know it is too late now but if you want some really high quality stuff in pure white, black, orange and 3 reds (along with his epoxy primer and multiple Pebble Beach winners Universal Clear) call Southern Polyurethanes. The customer service is second to none and the products are as good as it gets. Free shipping and it will be at your door in ~4 days from Georgia.

Talked to them a few times. That's where I'm going to get all my stuff when we finally get there.

True. I use my blasting cabinet almost every day. How did I ever get along without it.

White would probably be a race car color on a 2 door car. This car has 2 doors..... on each side and is more librarian or maybe the little old lady from Denver if it works out that way

Methylene chloride paint stripper is available to those who do not identify as a non professional.
I researched it a while ago but did not follow up as my "stash" is still holding up.

I have not tried any of the new stuff yet, but with the old stuff I would wet the surface out real good with the stripper, then cover it with cheap painters plastic from lowes.
The painters plastic will slow the dry time down on the stripper, and almost all the paint would be gone when hit with a pressure washer.

The effort it takes now to use it I would rather just drag out the blaster. I tried that with terrible results. Like Princess says all it really does now is soften the paint. The old stuff you could just watch the paint wrinkle and separate from the metal.

Hell, if ya did it right, it would fall to the ground on vertical surfaces.

I have just been blasting parts now for around 10 years or so, I got lucky and found a powder coat shop local that will blast stuff cheaper than I can buy the sand for, so that is no brainer.
But I do have a cabinet blaster, pressure pot, and a hand held blaster if needed.

The thing the methalyne chloride hating moms do not take into consideration is how subject we working stiffs are more subject to airborne contaminant by using abrasives instead of the safer to us, chemical stripper, that we literate people can understand the directions clearly written on the product use instruction.
