New stripper

-
The thing the methalyne chloride hating moms do not take into consideration is how subject we working stiffs are more subject to airborne contaminant by using abrasives instead of the safer to us chemical stripper that know how to follow the directions written clearly on the can.

I know the story behind that just ticks me off to no end.

So I experimented this evening and instead of hosing down the work area with water to neutralize the chemical at the end of the day, I left it on and I'm going to leave it overnight.

I found that after 3 hours, it's crinkling and lifting the paint. I think it works, just takes a bit longer but in this society where microwave ovens are just too damn slow, we can't have the slow chemical reaction :poke:

I'm with Rusty, do you have a pressure washer? It is really (impossible?) to get all that out of the crevices with just a hose.

Yes the plan is to power wash it after work tomorrow then I'm going to move the car into the sunlight this weekend. Nothing like a hot sunny day to dry out any, if any solvent is left behind anywhere.

No, don't tell me that touched that too.... I use that to clean my paint gun.....
yeah its weaker than it was say 20 years ago. Everything is environmentally friendly now. I havent seen chlorinated brake cleaner in a while either...that stuff was fun.

Wonder how the new stuck works if covered with plastic?? Also do the pro paint stores sell the real striper??
There is a pressure nose you can buy at hardware stores, or Lowe's that looks like a minature fire hose nozzle, it really puts out some pressure.

So I got home at 4 p.m. and I had left a coat of stripper on over night and came home to find it mostly dried but there were a few wet spots.

Then I spent a couple hours hitting it with 80 grit on the flat spots and a wire brush cup wheel on a drill in the areas the flat DA sander was impractical.

I like the new formula. It softens the paint enough to make the wire brush or sander able to remove the remnants effortlessly, however this is still a tedious and time consuming project and no magic chemical or potion is going to make it easier.

I give the new formula of aircraft stripper a nod of approval and I will be buying more.

So anyone know what color the k frame is supposed to be?

I'm thinking gloss back is kinda ick.....

But maybe a satin black ???

Dang.....looks like it worked pretty well. Be careful when you get down to the hand sanding stage. Some of the spot welds might have a sharp point sticking up from where the spot welder pulled hot metal up. It will rip a hunk out of your finger, and make you madder'n hell ! I usually just buy gloss black single stage for k frames, and get the paint store guy to give me some flattening agent to mix in with it to dull it down a smidge. If you have no body work to do in the engine bay, put a good smooth coat of epoxy primer on it, and then lay the white to it the next day. No need to even sand the epoxy. You're rockin on with that thing! :D

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Stripper. Meth, throw in some gambling and you got the whole US economy. :usflag:

i've started using the SEM Trim Black from recommendations on here. don't know how that would look on a K, but it has a good mat / satin look
