Fuel pump noise

By pass for what reason? I unhook the rubber feed line from the rear and stuff a bolt in it to plug it while I am horsing with the pump. The feed line to the carb is going to empty it self regardless so get a drain pan under the pump to catch the fuel.

Bypass to temporarily render the pump from working.
I must have been thinking something else..

Thinking of it now I wonder if I pulled the pump and pushrod.. and start car, it should stay running for 10 seconds or so to see if I hear difference in noise before replacing pump.
