The early A body cars have long had the problem of fuel spillage while filling up.There has been much said on this forum about this problem. Modern fuel filler tubes have the smaller diameter inlet for the smaller gas pump nozzles, which act as a baffle. This baffle stops fuel burps. Our old cars don't have a baffle, which is why our cars burp fuel when the tank gets full. Layton's sells a converted fuel tube which solves the problem. However, I figured out a simple solution that costs under $5. I purchased and modified a PVC grommet that does the same thing as Layton's filler tube. The hole in the grommet is large enough to allow modern gas pump nozzles to loosely fit. I very carefully ground the outside diameter to tightly fit inside the the filler tube. I then applied Right Stuff in the groove on the OD of the grommet and then stuffed the grommet a little way down inside the filler tube simulating a modern filler tube. Right Stuff is strong enough to hold the grommet in place for a long time. The grommet sells for $4.49 at Autozone and is available almost any parts store.

Thanks for the tip. It's a cheap and easy fix.

Sounds like a great fix. What I do is just turn the nozzle sideways and put it in. Then listen carefully as it start to fill.

Make sure to keep it recently waxed under and around the gas cap on the quarter panel (may help reduce staining when spilled).

Yup, and a rag in your other hand to attack the spills immediately.

Here's a photo.
