Has anyone machined AN adapter fittings? Specifically I need to go from -8AN male on a trans cooler to 1/2 NPT. NPT can be male or female. I'm using it as an aftercooler on my compressor and I'm trying to use as much material as I already have and not order a bunch of fittings and flare tools that I'm not likely to need again. I can order some in, but they aren't free and would be a couple weeks out, at least. Doing the female -8AN looks like a bit of a PITA but I think I can cut the threads first and then the 37 degree included angle for the seat? Pic is of a -8AN to 1/2NPT that Summit can order from Russel.

The heck are you doing on a cooler that results in 1/2 NPT?? If you don't HAVE to have aluminum, you have any kind of tractor/ hydraulic hose shop locally? Tractor hydraulics, unless metric, are usually steel, and pipe, O-ring boss and JIC which are the same fittings as AN

SAE is 45* typically brass. But JIC / AN are same stuff

I’ve found it is best to look on the website for the brand you are using, ie Earls, Russell, Aeroquip and pull the part number to look up on Summit / Jegs.

As was just said, JIC is steal vs the aluminum of AN. A marine / boat shop would also have JIC fittings. I’d not machine the AN unless it was last resort.

I'm trying to use stuff I have on hand. Sure, I could go out and spend $200 on fittings and crimped lines, but that doesn't make any sense when I have the parts to do it if I can adapt to the AN fitting. Places to make lines are few and far between around here as far I know, but there is probably something within a half hour drive.
I make a lot of crap you can buy off the shelf. Gives me a sense of accomplishment, saves money (usually), and keeps me out of the bars.

I'll try the vendor sites to see if they have something in stock. The Russel part from Summit is $6 ea and I can stomach that, especially if I get some other stuff I "need" to get over $99 to pay for the shipping. The radiator should show up tomorrow though and was hoping to install this weekend.

Can you use tube nuts/sleeves (read- cheap) to attach aluminum hard line to the cooler, then you should be able to find compression or flare fittings/adapters at your local hardware store to attach the hardline to whatever you need to.

You missed what I meant, what I was getting at is what are you connecting that needs 1/2NPT? That just seems like an odd combo?? I was thinking there might be a better way

Have to plumb from the pump to cooler and then cooler to filter/separator then into the compressor tank. Only thing that’s AN is the cooler. Tank is pipe thread with 45 degree compression fittings. I want to run rigid pipe because I have it. There’s a speed shop on the other side of town that has a lot of AN fittings in stock so I might be able to get them there
