Going to be installing a hydraulic roller cam and just wondering who makes the best bronze push rod for the fuel pump. I was reading some of the reviews on the push rod from comp cams and the reviews were not good many guys had the rod fail while breaking in their engine.

Are you sure your roller needs a special push rod? Many rollers are iron these days and dont need the special billet stuff.

The guy I'm buying the cam kit from told me I will need a bronze fuel pump push rod which he doesn't have, crane cams has a special push rod for the hydraulic roller cams but I can't find the number, apparently Crane went out of business from what I hear but they still should have product out there.

Crane product has evaporated.
Good luck

I sure would make DAMN SURE other than "the guy I bought it from said...". That's flakey as all hell right there.

Scott Brown has been around for many years and is one of the best Mopar guys around. My current cam setup is one I bought from him 15 years ago and I have never had a issue with it. It's just time to upgrade to something a little better.

I'm proud for him.

Hughes Engine sells the bronze pushrod from Comp cams which has been known to fail

This troubled me. Hughes offers two different pushrods so I contacted Hughes about this and got this response.

"One is supplied by Competition cams and the other by Howards cams."

You can tell by the part numbers which is which.

Got one from Howards Cams

Let us know in this thread if you have any pushrod issues.
Thanks
It won't be any time soon. This is going to be a winter project that I probably won't start until after Christmas that's if I get my cam. Right now there is a shortage of cam blanks and my builder doesn't know when they will be available as he custom grinds all his cams.

I'm wondering if I can revive this thread with a pushrod issue on my 68 Dart. I just had an Edelbrock top end kit installed on my 383 by a shop, and I started having fuel delivery issues shortly thereafter. I found that the fuel pump pushrod was the issue after I tried a new fuel pump; the pushrod was not changed with the new kit, and it has been worn down considerably (about 1/4") from the stock length on the cam end (see photos). It worked fine for years with the old cam, but failed right away with the new top end. The shop recommends installing a electric fuel pump/block off plate now to avoid any more damage or issues. My concern is that the metal shavings from the pushrod inside the case could do damage. Any advice to prevent any additional issues other than change the oil and filter? Thanks!

Same thing happened to me on a fresh build:BangHead:
About makes ya sick. I figured well the damage is done, F it, did 2 consecutive oil and filter dumps and went on with it.
It`s been a year or so, same oil pressure, no new noises. Time will tell.
Good luck.

I just eliminated the pushrod and ran an electric fuel pump that has a return on my roller cammed engines.

No problem with cam wear or broken pushrods.
