Mom still refuses to move out of Cleveland. Several friends i went to school with are Police Officers and they state they are just plain old overwhelmed. Guy across the street is selling drugs. She has taken pictures of the cars, buyers/seller. She's been in numerous verbal altercations with them. She talked to Counselman Kelley who is running for Mayor. Detectives. Friday she went down to see the prosecutor. No luck.

(And she yells at me for not getting the covid shot...says covid will kill me. smh)

Any recommendations on home security camera's. A friend recommended Speco.
I'm leaning toward reolink. 4k camera...speco $300ish Reolink just over a 100.

10 years ago i installed a zmodo system. with a 1tb seagate hard drive....$300. Worked good, picture quality was ok. Hard drive crashed a year ago. I thought about just putting a new hard drive in but she needs a better quality picture.

What’s your budget? Wired or wireless?

Depending on your needs, an Arlo system could fit the bill.

i would like to stay under $1000. prefer wired. i want to keep them discreet... no need to give someone a target to shoot at...like the street lights.

Start posting the pics of the users cars buying on a community forum. Who owns the property? If its a rental, you can go after the owner for illicit activity.
Drug dealing decreases the value of a rental property and may attract other illicit activities and crime to the area.

This liability exists even in the event that the landlord does not have actual knowledge of the illicit activities but the appointed property manager does; landlords are responsible for the actions and knowledge of their designated agents.

In the event that the issue persists and the property owner fails to do everything that can reasonably be expected to prevent the illegal use of the property,
the federal government has the option of initiating a civil asset forfeiture complaint to seize and/or forfeit the property to the government.

Call the Feds or your city council member or congressional member or state rep. Bark high enough up the tree and someone will have to address this, you can even call the city newspaper. Email them all the same complaint (CC all of them) so when **** goes down there (shooting, arson cough ) there will be a paper trail that you can show everyone that this was brought to everyones attention.

I have an old Arlo system (3 cameras @ $600?) and while its nice to be notified that someone is on the premises, a hoodie and the usual looking modern mask would obscure any identity. I can speak through the camera through my phone and can hit an 'oh ****' button that sounds an alarm. I see that 'Ring' unit a lot on new builds. Sometimes a few signs (smile, your on camera!) strategically placed will add to the 'you are being watched' factor, but the brazen and man with a mission really doesnt care. A 'protected by Smith and Wesson' sign on the house, coupled with a 'keep honking Im re-loading' sticker on the car, might have the same results.

EDIT...if you do get a camera system, you could ask her to have it linked to your phone as well so there are two sets of eyes on the house. You might be more vigilant than her.

We have a city road that feeds a freeway on ramp and a commercial district. It gets rutted so bad that its like driving on broken bricks. I took a pic of it and went to a city council meeting and gave the projector operator the image. I told the council members that this ill maintained road is an embarrassment to our community and the all agreed (how did they miss it?). They had a grater out there the next week and had it repaved! Today its as bad as it was...just too much traffic on that road or improper soil prep. Hundreds of cars and trucks an hour use that street to get to the freeway. Just an example of community action to get something done.

Publish the address and everyone here that has amazon Prime send them a cheap fire extinguisher. spread it out over about a month. Maybe they will get the message. Or something cheap but maybe it will flood the address with delivery traffic.... I like the "Your being recorded" signs all up and down that street.
Call in a suspicious item next to the property (ball, box, backpack..anything you see next to it). Maybe they will have to send a patrol car to "investigate". Stay within the law, no SWATting!
swatting
Buy an old cop Crown vic with spotlight still on it, tint the windows and park it in front of your house. Put a bunch of fake antennas on it. Or jut ask the PD to park a retired unit out on your street.

We have ring it doesn’t record for that long time wish i thought of that before we purchased. I would look at something with a longer recording time . Also my power is down at my other house for upgrading reasons so may want to look at battery back up, how long that would last. Then there’s WiFi if that goes out u also get no surveillance. Many things to consider.

Wyze has been great for me. Super easy to setup and only need a plug. Heck the new outdoor ones don't even need a plug. Batteries last 6 months.

I have a couple of Aiwit solar powered cameras, one on the back of my garage viewing the back lane and one that covers my front driveway. They are connected to my phone and I can also have them download to a cloud server. Wife got them on Amazon for around $100.00 each. They have a real good picture day or night and I can talk through them.

A friend of mine has a Eufy system. He likes it as it is all wireless and he can't be bothered trying to wire it up.

I've got an 8-channel Lorex, but this is the last Lorex product that I'll buy. If I bring the app up on my computer I can only look at camera #1 live. The others I can look at recorded video. Not sure what I'll buy next.

like steve said, forget the camera
that wont deter crime, nor protect your mom, it will only help figure out who needs to get slapped on the wrist once she is dead

put the money towards arming mom, and then more money towards training her

Different country, different market, but I have an 8-camera NVR TVT system for home. I can pick up activity on my phone when not at home....alerts & alarms in the zones can be set up easily. Almost instant - depends upon the internet speed.

Have also installed a few for customers here. Network cabled system, with an option for wireless, but I prefer good old fashioned Cat6 cable...POE cameras, easy setup and great pictures. Here's a quick shot of the system at home....while I was setting up another system for a friend.

Also if you do something like this, warn her and pay attention. Often criminals will do "small stuff" on your property to see what will happen. If nothing happens, they decide "nobody watching"

I have a annke vision from Amazon it came with 8 cameras all the wiring and the box i had to buy the hard drive separately to record. I have right around 400 in it with the hard drive I have had it right at a year and so far I like it. No problems. I have it linked to my phone so I can check on the house even when I'm not home.

Costco has a really nice system go online and check it out

I understand you wanting to keep the cameras somewhat discreet, but it might be a good idea to have a few that are clearly visible. This can be a deterrent for some thieves who are likely to skip a house that's being monitored due to increase risk of getting caught. Until recently, I lived in a rather bad part of columbus. We all carried guns on my street and sometimes were used unfortunately. But I setup my own camera system. I prefer wired cameras as well and would recommend you get ones that say POE, it'll simplify installation as power is sent over the ethernet cable. I'm setting up a new system at my new house now, using an open source solution called zoneminder.

I've caught many things on my cameras. Used them to track down a kid who stole my gas can and started a fire in my yard. His grandma was not happy when I told her what happened.

Amcrest makes some pretty good cameras for the money, I've bought one so far. As far as an NVR goes, I can't recommend any specific one. I've hated the interface on them all, hence trying zoneminder.

thats why i like good ole claymore security system

Mom refuses to move. My brothers and i have tried. My theory for a discreet camera, i dont want to give anyone a target to shoot at. Worried about a stray bullet, the neighbors on either side of her are ok. I carry, she just started asking about a gun...we will see. I have Dad's old .357 s&w, with a .38 load she could handle it ok.

Thanks everyone for the input.
