Home Security Camera's recommendation

I understand you wanting to keep the cameras somewhat discreet, but it might be a good idea to have a few that are clearly visible. This can be a deterrent for some thieves who are likely to skip a house that's being monitored due to increase risk of getting caught. Until recently, I lived in a rather bad part of columbus. We all carried guns on my street and sometimes were used unfortunately. But I setup my own camera system. I prefer wired cameras as well and would recommend you get ones that say POE, it'll simplify installation as power is sent over the ethernet cable. I'm setting up a new system at my new house now, using an open source solution called zoneminder.

I've caught many things on my cameras. Used them to track down a kid who stole my gas can and started a fire in my yard. His grandma was not happy when I told her what happened.

Amcrest makes some pretty good cameras for the money, I've bought one so far. As far as an NVR goes, I can't recommend any specific one. I've hated the interface on them all, hence trying zoneminder.
