So, it was you!
HaHaHa, just kidding!
Honestly though, I got hit in the mask at least 5 times more in warm up than I did during the games.
Or guys would try to score during warm up, that would piss me off to no end........
The idea of a warm up was to get the goalie a feel for the puck and used to the speed of it as well as your position in the crease.
Not to blast away and try to take your head off or score!

I was a Captain for more years than I care to admit. I would always remind my wingers warm up the goalie means exactly that, but alas they never listened. Once goalie steps in it was game on, nothing says your a bone head like a full blown slapper for the goalies first couple looks. Boys will be boys. Our goalie had one of those small troll dolls with the stand up hair he would set in corner of locker room with a votive candle and we all had to bow to “Joe Boo” on way out of locker room. Goalies are all nuts! No offense to above poster!

Many skaters don't realize that warmup is not only to get the goaltender in the groove but also to install confidence in him. I put the first few on his pads then start tossing a couple into the corners to get his glow and waffle warmed up. After that I do some slappers.

You did say get a feel for the puck didn't you? LOL

I played goal for a short time and I was surprised that it wasnt painfull to take one on the mask but it sure was LOUD !
My ears rang for a while !

Our goalie got sick during a tournament we traveled to and stayed at hotel. I volunteered to be goalie as I play defense and often times stood in net to allow my guys to warm up a bit while we waited on our prima Donna goalie to get dressed so I figured WTF. Anyway it took me and my defensive partner three tries to get the gear on correctly, nobody in the locker room had ever really paid attention like you were going to put it on type attention so they were no help. We made a mess of it, sequence of events is important. I wore my regular skates as well. It turned out about like you imagine it would. They make it look easy but I assure you it is not at game speed. I got shelled, it dawned on the other team early I was pretty effective waist up and not so much down low. Goalies make it look easy, it ain’t!

Isnt that the truth ! High shots are easy.. its the ones trickling along the ice that slide right below your stick that are frustrating.!

Yeah, the greatest vulnerabity to a goalie is low stick side corner or 5 hole.
And to respond to post#15, Yes, It isn't as easy as it looks!

I go in net for my 8 year old son and his friends to shot on me..
I have a different appreciation for goalies they definitely make it look easy lol.
A picture of my son and I on my back yard rink.. I've recently got the correct equipment, the boy is starting to get a pretty good shot..

It's great that you are doing that for him.
Wow, it's a lot colder in Ontario right now than I thought it would be......lol
Here in Alberta, it's going to be in the 20s all week.
(That's the 60s and 70s for our American friends)

Just super cool! That’s what Dads do! Enjoy it while you can. Pretty soon you will be dropping him off at the team bus and he will be focused on his buddies and you are a mere taxi! Hah!
