Plan Z dart from UTG hits the track

-
Trouble at the track can happen to anyone. One would think that a self proclaimed engine guru would have it figured out and back on the track PDQ.
I guess it would depend on what the trouble was.... To be honest I wish him the best of luck with his cars just like I do for everyone else. If he gets his numbers then great, if he doesn't then oh well.

For an event billed as the ‘Slant Six Nationals’:
1) have your stuff ready,
2) bring spares in case something breaks,
3) at least make an attempt to fix it by working on it at the track.

For me, one trip out of town or up the road and I would know that a 15 or 16 second car isn't going to run 12's or 13's. Seat of the pants. I would know then that I had an issue and would be resolving that before making the trip to the strip

. Saw a video of his explaining how wonderful the pinion snubber is.
Since in my opinion it's worthless, I wrote him off. I didnt find him particularly entertaining either, and when his four door nitrous coronet wouldn't fall out of a tree, well.......

I echo those sentiments. He has brass posting up all of his failures. Then he turns around and does try to break down what happened. He's good people. I don't really care what others think of him.

The Slanted Nationals was kind of an AHRA thing. Uncle Tony lent his image to the flyer to try and get the car count up. He made a short appearance made a few runs and then needed to get back home. Slant Six racers have been getting 10 to 20 cars at the best in the last few years. So the Nationals pulled a few cars out, I think there were 7 cars there and I think everyone had a good time. I think UT came away with a better understanding of how fast some of the good slants can run. I spoke with him and he asked me a few questions about making a slant run, so I told him what I would do if his car was mine. Now to see if he figures it out, but I think for him it's doing it in hot rod fashion.

yeah i wasnt impressed either, **** my dart runs 10.5-10.7 at the 1/8 thats with a 4 speed and 3.55 gears With no weight reduction at all. I mean i seen his plan z dart that **** has holes in the frame motor mounts really made that car light and with 4.30 gears. i was expecting high 9s with all that work.

I swear, I think even with having to granny shift the hell out of the column shift, Vixen would run faster.
My dart ran a high 9 back when I was a teenager with a slant 6 completely stock with me changing the gears. I think my slowest was in the 10s that's been a long time ago its hard to remember but I know it was around the same as utg fastest time lol not dissing him at all im sure he will get it tuned and it will be a screamer.

That drag strip is a bit further than I though. Probably won't be going that far. We'll mess around with this app and see. My 65 Valiant ran 19.7 in the 1/4 way back when before I put the 360 in it and eventually got it into the mid 11s.

Hi 9's would be a fast run with a completely stock /6 in a full weight dart ..... real fast in fact.

Im thinking maybe it was a high 10 lol its been 20 years ago I do remember I knocked off quite a bit of time shifting with the Hurst shifter. Maybe it was 12 something down to low 11s high 10s. Either way it wasn't far off utg plan z.

How many guys have built cars from the ground up only to be disappointed with their initial run? A crapton. I remember the asshole I worked for back in the mid 80s at the mom and pop machine shop. He built his 76 Chevy Monza 2+2. Blown 383 stroker, Ford 9" with 4.86 gears, back halved, big tires.....all that. He "just knew" the car would go 10s first time out. 12.90s. The 67 Chevelle SS with a warmed up 327 I had at the time was faster. lol He was NOT happy. He did eventually get the car in that configuration into the low 10s though. And later he put "some kinda" stroked big block in it and tubed out the front and the car got deep in the 9s. He could gone that fast with a "MUCH" more stock bodied Mopar.

I rarely (and by rarely I mean never lol) have a plan that works out the way i think it will the first go around. Its too easy to set back and judge and laugh at someone's failures. He didn't have to post the video he could have just hit delete and and came up with an excuse. But he didn't im sure he isn't happy with that time but he posted it that takes alot of gonads imo.

Thanks to Replica for posting the UTG update. I won't look at any of his YouTube stuff because I don't want to add to his view numbers.

My dealings with UTG:
1. He used to frequent the Slant Six forum here. A few years ago he wanted to stage a heads up /6 race in TN. I asked if he was going to have a stick shift class. (My 64 was a 3 speed) No, not allowed because they would have an advantage. I said my 64 was factory equipped and in fact a 4 speed was optional. No, can't race.
2. I bought some /6 parts from him maybe 4 years ago. An early V8 gas pedal and cable and an electronic dizzy. The dustributor never showed up, lost in transit. Hey Tone, check the tracking. Oops, didnt record the tracking numbers. Really? To his credit, he eventually refunded my money.
3. The 318 he sent to Nick's Garage. That was hilarious. After that debacle, ignored. I might have attended the "Slant Nationals" until I saw his name.

I know of no 1/8 mile tracks in Ohio so have no concept of half tracks. What does 10.03 @66 equate to on a full track?
Otherwise I'll have to find my stack of /6 ET slips and compare. (18.51 in my cruiser)

It's my opinion hes just a youtube panhandler, Every job or bussiness hes ever had has been a failure, so he jumped on the latest get-rich-bandwagon known as youtube. He builds junk, and none of his "project cars" are anything but slow *** garbage. He claims to have all the experience in the world, but it is all a ruse to sucker in gullible people who dont know any better, to click his vids, for a paycheck.

Damn, tell us how you really feel! Haha!!!

I would say all these threads have really pushed his sub count up ! He plowed to 200k, and already up to 203k ?? Figure 50k members here are seeing all these threads and controversy about the guy probably has them rushing on over to see what's the hub-bub is all about. LOL....

By one chart I have, 10.00 converts to 15.60. I think that's too fast. Wallace says 10.03 /66 converts to 15.91 at 82mph. I think that is more realistic.
