Still working wiring and ignition system.
Rebuilt carb today.

Still working on the Colt, more herding cats.
I took a weekend and went to the Slanted Nationals in Missouri.
Small turnout, but good friends were there and I picked up a great head for the next engine.
Here are some of the cars that were there.

Well most of the guys are in the witness protection plan, so from top to bottom:
slantzilla
J. Kendall's bucket
Ron?
Greg O
Unknown
Ryan from N.D.
Uncle Tony and a local celebrity
Green Team and Stan the Man.
There were a couple more cars there, but pictures self destructed in the camera.
Weird.

Hey Stan,

What a cool car. I just read first page and the last one, but that looks like a bullet!

I don't know why they make us have a photo on the web before we can post it. That is a "drag", and not a race one. I have photos, but don't want to go through the hassle to put them on the web.

I appreciate you're going through the time to post all the photos.

Do you know how many horses she may be pulling, and did you get the weight with the power plant and tranny?

Bob

Thanks Bob!
Glad you like the story.
I post pictures right from my hard drive, it's pretty easy I think.

The Colt should be in the low 2000 lbs. range.
It was a Pro Stock car so with a Hemi and a Lenco it should have been 2350.
I removed 90 lbs. of lead from the rear and the slant is lighter.
I am wanting to see around 2100 lbs.
The A class with the slant racers is 2000 minimum, so I want to be there.
I think I am in the 250 HP range.
Once I get some MPH data I will be better able to estimate HP.

The pictures help me also, I just like to document progress, or lack of...

Hey Stan,

Checked on the ring, it left Ft Worth at 3:38am this morning. Can't wait!

2100 lbs, wow, I think you are better off w/a /6 anyway. I've got a 3200lb Duster w/about 500 horses, it is so much power I don't dare punch it yet. I just got it together, took for freakin' ever. It's a long, long story, but it's together except for the sending unit ring. I can let you know what the hp is when I get the chassis dyno tests run. I need to learn how to handle that many horses. I only had a 360 w/about 200 horses in it before, maybe 250, but that was a heavy car compared to what you have there. Is is only a strip car?

I have been on this forum for a good 5 years and I could never figure out how to post a picture from my hard drive, lol. Which icon do you use, or do you do a c/p or something? I'm dying to know, I could never figure it out...

It is cool that you documented your progress. I had someone build my car and they did a horrible job. My documentary would have been more like: Well, they over tightened the thermostat housing and warped it. I had to replace it w/a billet aluminum one and it holds just fine. Today I saw the rear tranny seal leaking a little, so I checked the fluid thinking it was low, and it was a quart over!!! Stuff like that, but a lot of it... ugh

Well, Thanks for your posts on the car. I forgot they made a Colt. I have never seen one modified before, not like that. It ought to really ought to shoot right out of the hole!
Bob

Bob, thanks again.
Here is what I do:

This takes me to my File Explorer
I navagate to the picture I want to post

And there you go.
I am using windows 10 on my PC.
Hope this helps.

Making a little progress.
Wheels came back from Bogart.
One is OK the second is a NO GO.
This is getting old.

Fuel system is plumbed, just a clamp or mount around the engine and it's ready.
Main battery cable run from trunk to starter.
Some of the subsystems are wired.

That's my Duster and that's her power plant. Runs pretty good. But no where near as fast as what your going to do...

Thanks for explaining how to upload photos. Now that I saw that, I may have done it eons ago, but forgot.

I need to put the drag radials on it tomorrow morning in anticipation for the ring you sold me. Street tires are like no tires.

Have a good one.

Hey, it looks good in the pics, glad you figured it out.

No street for now, but who knows, when I get old maybe I will make a street car out of her.

Glad I could help on the tank ring!

Those colts make wonderful toys!!! I always have such in back of my mind but everytime I see a ragged out one on CL, FB they want $2-3000 ! LOL

When I got this one, I sold the AZ Colt for $1500.
Rust free.
I have seen some Arrows come up for good prices within the last year.

Hi,
Like your car and wish I could have found it first. Lol. I am buying a stock ‘71 Colt, which should be home soon. I am a huge Don Hardy fan and have owned several V8 Vegas with all of his parts on them. I should be able to copy Hardy’s chassis with some help from a local race car shop. Could you tell me the hub flange to hub flange measurement on your Dana 60? I see you are going with a smaller slick on the rear. Is this because of wheel choice/availability?
Thx,
Tim

I am on a trip in the southwest right now, I can send the measurement when I return.
The smaller slick was because one of the POs installed too big of a tire and they were rubbing on the ladder bars.
And a slant does not need a 15 inch wide slick, so I downsized to get what I wanted. My new rims have the same offset out as the rims that were on the Colt when I purchased it.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I hope your trip is going well and you have nice weather!

Yeah! I noticed the overly-large slicks in a few of the photos. Huge!

So cool that you got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Hardy before Don passed away. I got to talk with him on the telephone. He was a true Southern gentleman and will always be one of my heroes.

When you get back, please also let me know the width of the rear wheels, their backspacing and the optimal original tire height and width (i.e. the biggest size that didn’t rub the ladder bars - lol).

Thank you and have a safe and great trip!
Best regards,
Tim

Tim, I will send you a message.
It will be easier to talk on the phone.
Mr. Hardy was a great guy and his son is just as nice.

Just finished reading the thread, I really enjoyed it, thanks. Very cool project. I see that there have not been any recent posts. Is it still progressing?
