340 in a 87 dakota truck

I'm pretty sure you will have to make your own; weld brackets to frame; rear trans mount should be ok.

You'll have to find a '89-'91 318 Dakota in the boneyard. You'll need the frame mounts and engine brackets (mod them as you would any 318 engine mount for use on a 340), The V6 stuff (and obviously the 2.2/2.5 stuff) won't work, and neither will the later model stuff which used Magnums. Get the oil pan and pickup from the Dak as well, they're tough to find. The 318 pan bolts right on the 340 (No, the '92 and later Magnum pans won't work on the 340).
Schumacher used to make mounts for this, too- but we're all aware of the issues with them. You may get lucky and find a set someone has stashed somewhere. I also believe there are some aftermarket pans available, too- check Charlie's and Canton...
A couple other suggestions:
The engine bay in five-lug Daks are REALLY short (that's why they bumped the nose out after '90; to gain more room for the V8) - consider using the early LA iron waterpump to gain a few precious inches. Alternatively, the '90-'91 Dak used a Magnum-style waterpump with a flange for a bolt-on V belt pulley, as opposed to the Magnum's pressed-on pulley for a serpentine (and reverse rotation) belt drive. This will also gain you some room, you'll need it.
So if your boneyard Dak donor has the pullies/accessory drives on it, grab those too.
And I hope you've got the 8.25 rear in it, too- not the weak sister 7.25 that came in the 4 cylinders and some v6s.

thanks for info. mine has the 83/4 with new coil overs, and with ladder bars,391 gear. would not even fool with it but came from NC and its rust free every where .cab floor looks like brand new .5 lug new disc brake set up on front, with new rack in it have jegs cage but not installed dont know whether to keep it or sell it ? got 4800 in it so far

Bolt some mounts to the block, check for level and side to side, tack where they land. Spool mounts might work best. With my big block in my 88, even shorty headers wont work. Find something that will exit the rear. I think my 727 lands nicely on the trans cross member too. I know yours is an LA, but the same method should work fine. Rear sump pan also.

Here ya go on the motor mounts
HiPoTek High Performance Conversion Polyurethane Motor Mounts LA Small Block 318/340/360 Fits Dakota RWD 1987-1996

On the transmission crossember. I woukd buy the new Holley black hart transmission crossember. It was built for putting a gen 3 hemi in a 87-96 dakota. But all I had to do is move the left side of the crossember a few inches back and redrill the left frame bolt holes. Now it works great with my 2000 360 magnum engine and 904 transmission on my 91 dakota sport. Now I can run a true dual exhaust if I wanted to

any one know where to get engine mounts, and trans mounts ? 340 -904 trying to put in a 87 dakota pick up? thanks
Dude! I love it! I had an 01 Dak 4.7 when I got my 340! The 4.7 was a ripper, but I had a thing for putting it in there, and doing the 440 HP block in my Sat. ...killer idea! And that's a light truck! On another note, I knew a guy that had a 440 powered lil chebbi luv on tractor tires... Yes 340 Dakota!

i see motor mounts for dakota on rock auto
Sure- depending what you're looking at, they're either the insulators for the '89-'91 318, which means you still need the frame & engine brackets from a donor truck; or they're the V6 & Magnum style mounts which won't fit your 340- 340s don't have the Magnum mount lugs cast on the side of the block.

What is currently in it for mounts? Did you do the work, or PO? If work was done by someone else, by the sound of it it may already have been set up for LA or BB- if set up for Magnum you're back to square one, as far as the 340 goes. If you can't find a donor, fab 'em up with what you got. You'll still need a pan and pickup, though- a regular Ram pan's sump is too large; the Dak's is about half the size. Not to say you can't cut and weld one, though; and mod the pickup. Or get aftermarket.
