I’ve been under the impression that my wheels were 14x5.5. I was told recently at a show that they should be 14x8. The back ones sure look thin with 245/60-14s on them! It’s a Swinger 340.

That makes sense, because this doesn't look right for an 8" wheel.

Like most things you hear at shows, that's B.S.- Darts came with 5.5s. As far as the 245/60s go, yeah, a 7 to 8 would be better.

I met a guy with my car's yellow twin a couple weeks ago at a show. He argued with me that scat pack cars came with 8" wheels.
I remembered the argument this afternoon, and the first website I came across, which was automobile-catalog.com, stated 205mm. Which is 8".
No way my wheels are that wide, and they are 100% original to the car.

I absolutely agree! I’m betting I can’t find a tire dealer in Indy that will put 245s on a 5.5 wheel!

To the best of my knowledge, no Mopar (or anything else) ever came with a 14x8. Certainly not any Dart, ever!
I absolutely agree! But this damn guy got me thinking… What if I’m not as knowledgeable as I think I am? That’s why I’m asking you all. Thanks for confirming what I thought I knew!

14 x 5.5 was the widest A Body wheel available, they went down from there.

Let's put it this way. An A12 rr/sb (the lift-off hood cars) in 69 came with the biggest, nastiest wheel/tire combo available in 69 on a b-body, bigger even than a hemi car, so special they wrote the tire size on the underside of the trunk for assembly line personnel.
It was a G70x15, on a 15x6 wheel.
Why in the world, would Mopar put a two inch wider wheel and tire on a smaller car, with less wheel well room, and a weaker rear-end and 115 less horsepower?

A '70 Swinger didn't have ANYTHING built in mm- much less the wheels.
But, I guess if it's on the internet, it must be true!
Yeah, im aware of that. I just figured that website had it in mm to try to impress someone with their "technical expertise "

Im aware of that, and probably wouldn't have started this thread had i been thinking better, and drinking less.

I have had my 340 swinger for 40 years or so and no there was never an 8 in wheel on a scat pack 340 swinger. 7 in about as wide as you can go without starting to really push it. I run 8 inch wheels on the back of mine 8/15 and it's very tight.

Standard wheel for darts was a 14"x 4.5" steel wheel.

Only 340 Darts came with the 14"x5.5" steel wheels, or 14"x5.5" Rallye wheels.

Of course, checking the proverbial "box" could get you whatever you wanted.

The guy who said it should have a 14x8 was clearly a Cheby guy.
