Stop in for a drink.

Hi folks!

As some may know, I bought a bunch of cases of Coors Extra Gold (my favorite beer) at the beginning of Summer when it became unavailable locally. I was glad that I did, I was able to enjoy it while sharing with neighbor friends and giving cases away to them to enjoy.

I ran through almost all of the last of my inventory on Labor Day weekend after a big neighborhood party and giving more away. Since then I have been sampling different brands looking for a new choice until the CEG becomes available again locally. I have enough CEG left to do fair comparisons, but it’s nearly all gone.

Today I discovered a beer that I would have never even thought to try as an alternative if not for the recommendation of a friend. Pabst Blue Ribbon.

It’s not a beer that I ever gave a second thought to, much less even considered trying.

However, I bought a case and did a direct comparison to the CEG.

The carbonation is about equal. The nose of the PBR is just slightly more sweet and less acid aromatic than the CEG. More fruit and less bitter...but only very slightly.

The taste and mouth feel starts about the same, but the finish of the PBR is more fresh and less bitter than the CEG.

In general, they are very, very close...but the PBR is brighter and less bitter than the CEG.

I think I found a good alternative choice for the CEG. And it’s readily available locally.

And I don’t give a rat’s *** about other people saying they can get CEG where they are, it is just beer. If I can’t get it locally and easily, then it’s not on my menu. I stocked up because I could and it was convenient. I’m glad I did, and I enjoyed having it on demand all Summer when I wanted it. My neighbors were happy about it too.

PBR has made a comeback .... just go to a college bar and you'll see it flowing like 1978.
