340 in a 87 dakota truck
Bolt some mounts to the block, check for level and side to side, tack where they land. Spool mounts might work best. With my big block in my 88, even shorty headers wont work. Find something that will exit the rear. I think my 727 lands nicely on the trans cross member too. I know yours is an LA, but the same method should work fine. Rear sump pan also.
