O-Z racing (By Enkie for Mitsubishi) AL rims, OEM off a 99 Mitsu Eclipse...they are black but may have been natural in a previous life? Picked up 4 at pick-a-part of a 93 Eclipse for $29 (+$15 core) a piece. It looks like there is some bubbling around the edges before the lip. Is this water under the clear coat/powdercoat/paint corroding the AL? Reason I picked them up is my rare 9 spoke chromed AL OEM's on my 92 SC400 has one that is in really bad shape on the bead and wont hold air, a few pinhole leaks and under further investigation revealed massive corrosion on the inside. 3" long strips of plating are pealing off exposing white powdered AL underneath so I decided to replace them all. These Enkies are super clean inside and I was going to respray them in semigloss black. Whats best way to strip whats on them to find whats under this black finish or could these have been black as stock? The finish look like a med metallic black powdercoat , very smooth. I cleaned them and could just high build primer the few scratches on one of them and sand and respray? Also should I bomb the entire rim, inside the bead and all for maybe some moisture control?

I did the dip on a set of rims and they turned out awesome.. it's kind of filled in a lot of the scratches and look great but not for long...:(..
I would call it more something to try and see if you like that color and then not even that because it may be a big pain to come off with those crevices...

Man that is some loaded questions. Just make sure you do not load up the wheel to hub mounting surface. Too much material at the mounting surface can lead to "squirming" of the paint and lead to loosening of the wheel.

I dont want to dump a bunch of money onto these, my kid could care less. He just wants wheels that are not flat in 3 weeks. I would keep the mounting plane free of any coating
