Dose anyone on here know how to fix a fuel sender? I know you can buy new after market ones but my experience with them is they work on the top 1/4 tank then there inaccurate the one I have is mostly there and the windings don't look too bad but what ever sort of pointer is used to go across the windings is missing there is just a tiny 1/32 hole approximately that is there what I'm wondering is gas anyone ever soldered that tip back on?

Find a brass nail and cut the head off and solder it on. Make sure everything is clean and use flux. The old Accel solid wire kits had brass brads to hold the distributor terminals on.

Watch the board the resistance wire is attached to one I took apart was a bit brittle.

Just ordered a sending unit, is there a way to fix this thing reading 1/4 tank problem before I put it in? I mean like will it hold if I go through all the trouble of soldering everything the way it is specified in the how to post?

The sender wire runs to the driver side kick panel connector so check that connector. The instrument panel voltage regulator also powers the fuel and temperature gauge. I also solder the stud to the brass bar.

Thank you!

I used a meter match on mine with an after market sender. Works pretty well. Cost about $40 or so. There are some threads on here I think. I can walk you through it as well if needed. The only complication is that you need to replace your IVR as well for it to work properly.

I used this to replace my IVR. DC-DC converter. Cost $8 on Amazon. No electronic fab or soldering needed.

The repair you do to your OEM unit will last your lifetime.

I would never use an aftermarket sender again.

If there is one thing I'm not good at it is electricity. I will pass on the DC-DC converter. Thanks though.

You don't need it. You know what is wrong with your sender. The converter is only something that might be used if your IVR was bad. And the only need of a meter match would be if you didn't have an oem sender

Yep! OP asked about repairing his OEM unit, mentioned he could get an aftermarket with their inherent flaws. OP knows what's wrong with his sending unit and that it is not the gauge or the IVR or the wiring. so OP just needed info on fixing the button / dimple / rivet whatever you want to call it on the end of the swing arm of the rheostat in the sender. He has the How To, now just needs encouragement!

Unsuccessful, I just couldn't get the part the sweeps the windings to make even contact, maybe it was just too worn out, ended up with another shitty spectra one that sort of half asked works, that was for my son's Duster, however on my 56 Dodge truck which is sitting on a 81 Dodge truck frame and using the stock 81 tank, I replaced that sender with a marine Wema sender and it worked perfectly with the stock 56 gauge and seems quite accurate. No contacts to deal with, very simple system, doubt it would work with the a body stuff though as they work on a lower voltage reference at the gauge.

Thank you Cruze!!

I just checked out their website, Totally Freakin' Awesome!!!

I have spare gauges I can send them, then replace the ones in the Duster when they get back! Cool...

He is a little on the pricey side. My gauge does not read perfectly, it may be the gauge itself, but its close enough!
