Dual exhaust .... What are you running

-
Single exhaust. How warm is your 318? If it's pretty mild, they actually will respond better to a well thought out HP single exhaust.

Yeh, Jus' Finished Tearin' down my Y pipe and and runnin' dual glasspacks instead on my lil 273...
She's a Dog (That Sounds Cool)

I can't say that it would enhance performance much but I wouldn't go any larger than 2 and 1/4 on dual pipes.

My suggestion would be to come off the manifolds with as big a pipe as they can stand....that's usually 2.25-2.5 depending on "how good" your exhaust shop is and into one of those badass Flowmaster scavenging wyes, then into a 3" single and a good flowing muffler like a Dynomax Ultra.

My 66 barracuda runs much better with the Accurate Exhaust Hp single exhaust. I personally like the sound of it better than the dual exhaust that was on it previously.

The only problem is I don't think they make anything for use without stock 273 exhaust manifolds.

I would check the specs for the mid 60's 273 "D" Darts in trans Am racing. IIRC, they had a big single exhaust, and a resonator, but no muffler. Just my 2 cents.

I just installed Doug's Headers w 2.5 inch pipes going to Cherry Bomb Salute mufflers on my 65 Barracuda. Then 2.25 pipes from the mufflers over the rear axle w regular downturns. While 2.5 inch pipes "fit" over the rear axle, they occasionally rubbed on something back there (on my car anyway) so I had the exhaust shop put 2.25 pipes on.
This system sounds REALLY nice and is MUCH quieter than the single exhaust I was running which consisted of an Accurate Ltd Y pipe, no muffler and an NOS chrome tip resonator.

Another thing to consider is that the early A trans crossmember is only clearanced for a single pipe, not duals. Not a big thing if you can use a welder.

I bought my first Barracuda in 1969, a 1967 Commando 273 4 speed. As soon as I started it on the used car lot that car was sold! To me. Just driving around, I was always getting challenged at traffic lights because it sounded so good.

I'm running TTI's with H pipe, Super turbo mufflers and full duals on my 65 Barracuda. I have a 360 420hp crate engine. I have my springs moved in so I had to modify the rear exhaust section to clear.
And it sounds great in my opinion.
This is a trial fit before paint, don't have a newer pic on my computer.

Planning ahead for my 66 dart...318 w/ 340 hp manifolds.

Thx
What heads? 340 exhaust manifold against stock 318 exhaust ports, don't seal well. Those manifolds in a 66 and older engine compartment are a bit of chore to getting things to fit also.

When I was younger I ran headmann headers with Toruque tech 2.5 inch out the back. I have since switched to factory 68-71 340 manifolds an 1 /7/8 accurate exhaust with factory style mufflers. I started out wanting to drive the car and have ended up wanting to restore it as far back to original as possible including a standard bore 340

I seem to think Torque tech is out of business...they were out of Georgia.

Thx all. 318 is a placeholder for a built 340 which I have.

I liked the tti product but i need to check with them to see if it clears real swaybar (firm feel)

In that case, put the best dual exhaust system on it you can afford. I had a feeling that might be the case. TTI makes a good product.

Thx i need to check to see if it clears my ffi rear sway bar....minimally having them do the cross member modification. For the price its worth the time save

MOPAR engineers knew what they were doing when they designed the Commando exhaust. A large diameter single exhaust on these engines will give better performance than duels. That's why they didn't put duels on these cars! I'm sure the engineers did flow tests with these engines with duel exhaust before these cars were placed on the market. Scavenge is way to performance. Duel exhaust sounds cool but I think the Commando exhaust is absolutely is the best sounding exhaust I ever heard. The only way to possibly enhance the Commando exhaust is to make the pipe larger. Why change a great design?

I have an Adco rear sway bar on my 65 Barracuda. TTI 2.5 inch pipes clear that one. Obviously, have no idea about the Firm Feel bar.
