Hello FABO!
Using an American autowire kit. Anyone know if i remove the nipple from the back of the housing ? The one they send looks like the male tongs would be much larger. If i am supposed to.... how does it come off. I've tried penetrating oil and can get it spin but even with a flat headed persuasion it doesn't wanna budge.

If possible I'd take the old one apart and try to ressurect it. For one, that is in a "water splash area." Not sure what to use for replacing the boot, one thought might be heat shrink. Investigate Mouser electronics. You can buy that stuff in all kinds of sizes

Does that puppy just pry off the back? I had Zero luck with a flatblade screwdriver. I didnt want to try to hard though if it was pressed on. You would have to change the bulb by removing lense if this were the case.

So when you change a reverse light on a 7-9 barracuda, do you take off the housing and lense to reach bulb? Just trying to figure if the back (part that hold the bulb) of the reverse light even comes off.

Ok called American Autowire, great support BTW, for my application I use the whole original housing. The bulb looks like it is changed through the lense side of housing.

Thanks @67Dart273!

I "think" all of those sockets were crimped into the housings, not intended to be taken apart. And as you say, remove lens to change lamp

good thing i didn't try to hard. I'll clean and run it with the bullet connector.

Thanks!!!

The snap in type socket you have there is easy enough to access in the trunk. These reverse lamp fixtures are impossible to access from behind (cross member in the way). So yes you'll pull the fixture to replace a bulb. If you have loosened the socket to spinning at the crimp to the housing, you may have broken its chassis ground path. It may work intermittently. If so, you'll need to add a ground wire similar to what that other socket has. Same condition is found at front park/turn fixtures of 67 fish and other cast metal fixtures with fixed/crimped sockets. Good luck with it.

Ya I was afraid I may have tried too hard. Ill clean her up and put on a little something to ground it together. Not a big deal at the moment. Its more frightening to have to drill some holes in the valance as this is a new piece back there and curved. Thanks for the input!

I once saw a 67 park/turn fixture with huge gob of solder all around the socket inside the fixture. Solder didn't stick to the potmetal. It might have worked for a while. The right turn indicator in the dash would randomly blinkidy blink blink. Broken ground in that front fixture is what I found.
I have read that the aftermarket part doesn't have holes for reverse lamps so it works on 68 modeel also. Question.. will you run bumperettes? Do your bumpers have added holes for them? Reason I asked... the bumperettes can be placed at bumper bolts at front bumper without issue. At rear bumper the bumperette will land right in front of the reverse lamp. I relocated my reverse lamps father apart ( 3 or 4 inches left and right ) so I can run the bumperettes without drilling more holes in the bumpers. I can remove the bumperettes and put bumper bolts back if I choose to.
