What's recommended to use on the rear main seal.... oil or light grease?

I use white grease or the original Lubri-plate white grease based assembly lube You don’t want a dry grab to wreck the seal at start up

Thanks for the reply, white grease on the crank seal as well?

I use lucas red tacky grease and I Cady corner the seals. And use a dab of rtv in the corners

Most books I have read say oil. The main idea here is not to have a dry seal as mentioned above.

I lube the seal .
I don't use "goop" except on the gasket overlaps.
4 pea sized dabs.
Never had a come back, never had a leak, dozens of engines.

I certainly wouldn't use the quantity shown in the dartfreak pic. Especially both cap and block !

Do yourself a favor and throw it in the trash and buy the magnum viton double lip seal and install it as recommended above.
