Looking to buy/build 500-600 fwhp 360

-
Thank you for all the feedback. This project was started about 30 years ago by my dad, who passed away last year. I decided to go with a "Nitrous Under Glass" theme. The cool way the seat folds down and opens into the trunk will be perfect for popping in some nitrous tanks. Pretty cool to show them off through the back window. Also, I am a dentist so I always wanted to build a nitrous motor. It's going to be cool to pull up to the line, vent the nitrous like a raging bull and let her rip.

I like the direct feel of a stick-shift car. I know it is less reliable and consistent, but you lose horsepower with an automatic and a ford 9 inch. It makes more sense to scale back on the horsepower a bit and try not to lose as much through the drivetrain. My Corvette did not lose much HP to the rear wheels due to the 12 bolt diff and TKO 5 speed.
If you like horse power and torque along with show stopped looks.
Have the Speed shop Guy's install a Ray Barton blow'n Hemi, TKO 600 and a Dana 60
Now you have street beast that will have respect from everyone.

I won't give you the big red "x", but I will differ with you on that. What the hell does being 75 have to do with needing 800 horse on the street?? Does a 25 year old need 800 horse on the street? I'd MUCH rather see big HP in the hands of someone experienced enough to use it wisely- it ain't seniors plowing their Muskrats through crowds and picking off telephone poles. And chances are the 25 yr old is the one who ponied up the money and bought it, and the geezer (yeah, I'm getting there too) is the one who built it out of decades of experience. Hell, Garlits is still tearin' it up...
:soapbox:
Old folks slow down cognitively ( vision, reaction time etc. 35 miles an hour seems like 100 etc.) not all but most, ever been on a Harley and grandpa pulls out in front of you real slow in his big ol Buick? you asked...

...and Millennials don't have the "cognition" to begin with... and I've been on my Indian and had the kid texting on his cellphone pull out in front of me- and not slowly, either.

This all sounds like a lot of money, a lot of dreams, and little car knowings...
Story time:...
One of my customers (I help people restore their nostalgic hot rods..) as a friend who went and paid for a completely done 68 bronco and went to a big huge bronco meat with 100 people with early year broncos. He found himself standing in a group of three people watching the other 97 people talking laugh and joke and go on and on about the broncos... Him and the other two guys had bought their broncos completely done and didn't know a tenth of what it took to build one.. they almost felt like they shouldn't have been there...
So this thread is going to be a I took it to the shop and had this done and I took it to that shop and had that done and I really don't know why it's not running right or why things aren't right and I got to take it to another shop to have them figure it out because I don't have time...
I'm going for the unwatch button.. please don't quote me back in JPar out...

I'm not arguing however in my original post what i was alluding to was something along the lines of "that old coot don't need 800 horse to put to the car show/cruise...300-350 like in the old days is more than enough..." :) But I get it the old man had the money it was a nice car too...

So you restore people’s cars for them and you are bitching that he’s going to have shops do the work rather than himself?:realcrazy:

I know a guy who bought a 68 Chevy convertible. Total rust bucket. He said "its a rat rod" I said "yeah but you'll get tired of the way it looks and it will become a restoration..." so now he's paying, floor pans new top etc etc. it adds up.

And my point was it's not "the old man"... no one needs 800 hp to putt to the car show regardless of age. But you don't know what he's doing with it the rest of the time when not at the cruise in. Hell raisers aren't limited to kids. Fun knows no age restrictions.

Well then, I stand corrected...:)

Lenco or a Liberty. Not for the street though.

ST1200? A little gaudy on the shifter but maybe you can get one with an 'H' pattern? Last time I was playing with that stuff though a 4 speed was 4800 and a 5 speed was 5400 ish....

Well, I certainly did not mean to offend J Par. However, this is not a lot of money to spend to me. I've got a few people I work with who have treated me right and I just have not had the experience he described. Maybe this build will be different, but I don't think so. Actually, the car is almost done. I've got a lot of car projects going on and I don't have time to work on this one. I do appreciate everyone's feedback.

@j par aint offended as far as I can tell....maybe a little ornery.....Now that we know you have a little extra scratch to spare we will expect a sweet azz build and a bunch of pictures though.....:rolleyes:

I caught it.
I was waiting to see what the OP said about it. LOL
Ok, I checked out the clutch tamer. It looks pretty cool. I am sure I won't drive the car to it's max potential right away. My goal is to have fun, so we will see where this all goes.

Don't worry about it, we've all irritated his box a little from time to time. :poke::D

It sure does add up, it seems like the bodywork is the big unknown followed by re-chroming stuff. But there are always multiple what I call "the 500 dollar phone calls", which derails every budget.

I ah decided about 15 years ago to do my own paint and body work. Im not done but dern close. This was after I almost begged my buddies dad who was a pro body guy to paint it,he wasnt into it and now hes like 75 so definitely not into it. I donet want the car in body shop jail so its in my garage and i work on it as time permits and its getting there. If it turns out nice thats a plus but I am going for driver quality..as in if there are satone chip in it Im not going to blow a gasket LOL!

Ive considered what Im doing a repaint, but i took it down to metal and did weld a quarter on it etc.

This combo would be inconsistent with my goals of staying out of hospitals and jails.

Maybe if you took a shower or once in awhile you wouldn't offend so many people... LOL..:poke:..
I'm not offended whatsoever.. and I really like the hemi under glass theme and paint for sure... I just more enjoyed watching what people are doing to their cars instead of where they're taking them... Of course we can't do everything ourselves... Most of us don't have a machine shop or paint booth...

get rid of the 4spd and put a 904 in. All the reliable and consistent cars run auto transmissions.

I just have too many projects going on right now. I’ll do what I can when I have the time, and what I feel comfortable doing. I put together the truck engine, seen below. It’s a 69 Corvette 350 originally from my personal Corvette.
