The purple is the adjustment block to adjust the linkage. My '66 Valiant looks just like this other than that is a fixed length rod. Where I circled in green is another place where adjustment can be done. Is the parts book correct here should our car have that adjustment block?

My sons 69 floor shift console car has the adjuster block. I believe that's correct for console shifters

66 was the first year for the coffin style console. It's possible the early models didn't have that adjustment block.

66 isn't just the first year for the coffin style console, it is the first year for the linkage style shifter. 65 used a cable style shifter. We can assume there was some changes during the introduction of the linkage style

But 65 didn't have a coffin style console with a linkage controlled shifter. The 65's had a small console for the cable operated shifter. Show me!

The diagram looks to be correct. That's the way my '66 is.

changed the perished rubber bush for a 1/2 inch rose joint. fits over the rod perfectly and is now adjustable. Made a delrin sleeve for the other bushes. (extra thread removed from the rose joint and a locknut now fitted)
