Disappointed in my 383 on the Dyno

-
Sadly, when I built my 470 from a 400, we used nothing at all from that engine, except the block itself and the main caps.
I will be in the same boat as this is a bare block. The only positive is i can upgrade the main and end cap to the billet alumn/girdle with arp bolts right away. I am torn on which stroker kit to go with but i leaning towards the 512 from 440 source with the 11.1 compression.... thoughts?

You should verify the headers you have are compatible with tall deck blocks.

Several TTi headers are not.

Another tire fryer, a low deck 451 or 470 would make for a much better combo in an A- body.
The 4spd and 512 won't be very friendly with a mediocre chassis and drivetrain.

Chances are this is a two year build so I’ll have time to upgrade the chassis. My 8 3/4 is new, and transmission is going to be completely redone this winter

You would be way ahead by putting that motor on a regular dyno and do some tuning while it's being run. I use a local guy who charges $400.00 for a 1/2 day of testing.

agreed, i wouldn't be so keen to pull the 383. get it tuned properly and have some fun while the 2 year stroker build is going on in the background.
neil.

The Tti I have are a pain.Dougs looks like I've a better fit when I was at Carlisle afew years ago when I was looking at all the headers in big block A bodies

yea the plan was to drive the car with the 383 until the bottom end is fully done and the winter of 2023 do the swap. Who am i kidding, chances are ill have it done by this time next year and be itching to pull the 383 out and take the entire motor to the dyno for tuning.

in the mean time get the car on a chassis dyno and make the most of it. you may be surprised.

So i found a 440 bare block in good shape that I am planning on picking up and building over the course of the winter. Being that I already have the 383, other than an extension for the MSD distributor what else will need to be changed? In theory, its taller so it should actually clear the steering box more due to the added height of the block? my headers are TTI so my assumption is they will still work but I am not 100 percent sure. Any suggestions on a stroker kit? anyone have one they are trying to move lol?

Dougs make headers for an A-body with a big block ? I never seen them

Could have been Hedmen 78030 B-body headers in an A-body, they fit with manual steering and low deck engine.
I've used them in multiple A- bodies over the years and with very few dings.
They actually fit pretty well. imo
Maybe that's what it was .it looked like they fit around the starter better. My tti on my 470 is very close and I have a mini but they were on my 440.But it fits beautiful on the rt side .Changing plugs is a breeze. With the 440 it sucked. They have dings in them for the Manuel strg and stuff
