Slant 6 Aluminum Performance Head

Well whatever they are, they some bad soundin jokers. lol
Back around Y2K, I was attending & volunteering at the PVGP, many hot sounding inline 6's there. A Gentleman got 'hold of a vintage late '70's BMW IMSA class racer, 1st time out missin' gears, & sounded like fuel starvation issues...just a mess strugglin' to make a lap. The next year, BAM! Got it together, don't think l've heard a louder, haulin' *** straight six as it cranked out the stretch & the Panther Hollow bridge. That vid brings back the memory, wind baby wind!

Amazing they were turning somewhere around 8000-8500 RPM,and not just for a fraction of a second in the 1/4 mile.
Curious, were they using(allowed?) a dry-sump system, or road-race style sump? The RPM in & of itself doesn't surprise Me, but it's survival lap after lap has My interest....

that is just badass, would love to have specs on that! (didn't here music)

Well as a follow up to my own letter last year. 2020!!! What the Heck? What I thought that we all could defeat with masks, social distancing etc. in a month or so, became a political and as of today a pandemic nightmare. I am sorry for everyone (myself included) who has suffered a loss, been sick or debilitated or had their jobs ripped away from them. The latter being myself.

-With that lead in,
manufacturing of everything has been haphazard with long waits or discontinued items until further notice. Even Mighty Edelbrock has shifted and moved its foundry to another part of the country.
So an Aluminum Head as produced by the company that I was following is parked for now. I know CNC Dude here (and Robert Maw) have been working on the possibilities. I follow Robert Maw on FB and he has all but finished cutting the basic head out of billet aluminum blocks, so that is some progress. NOT the same as a huge International Foundry setting up and mass producing these at any price. But some progress.

Don't kill the messenger, I again am just a Slant 6 Fan exploring what's out there.

Slant 6 Aluminum Performance Head.

I have talked to the proposed and well known manufacturer and have at this point only seen prototypes.

I would be interested even if it meant inclusion of a special intake manifold (needed due to larger valve placement) and even further interested if it meant the necessary use of non factory exhaust.

If it hits the market it probably wont be cheap. The manufacturer is testing interest and is doing market studies before considering the big investment in development casting. There are many big foundries internationally that could pull this off, for a price.

I really am not trying to start "it" again on this sacred cow of a subject. I know that a Slant6AluminumHead would be exciting only if it meets potential performance gains as well as weight savings.

No hate mail please. I am a Slant Fan and am not trying to do anymore than to help check interest for the company. I say a well thought out Slant 6 Aluminum Performance Head would be the pinnacle of success for any Slant motor if done right.

I'm trying to figure out why @volaredon just disagreed with My posted outputs of a Hy Palisade, lol! Oh, for those who haven't seen it, look for the "engineering explained" channel on YT. Then the CVVD system, continuously variable valve duration, slick as sh*t!

cuz I wouldnt take a Hyundai or Kia or Toyota or Honduh if they were free......
I don't care what is claimed about them.

I've got 3 Toyota's with over 1Million original miles between them.

Your perogative, but I gave many examples of domestic & imported modern engines in the displacement range of the venerable 225, & that is the contemporary expectation of output from such. They're not "claims", they're for real, & I'm in them & drive them every day.
And My '06 'rolla is close to clippin' past 200K & drives almost as well as it did new, & will for at least another 150K. Toyota builds a quality product, & I see the stark comparisons every day, it's just a fact.

I'd even be willing to let someone use my closed chamber head for a CNC program. It's be nice to have a head that could get some quench.

What would be really cool is if somebody designed a W2 ported slant head....course then you're talkin custom intake and exhaust too. lol

To take advantage of the small cylinder you need canted valves plus up and down exh-intake ports to make them larger in the limited face area of the head. lol only drew 5

I laid out a hemi head layout for a slant 6 years ago (1997ish)

It can be done. It all depends on how far you want to go

Some company would be better off offering a cnc ported stock head that can do 250-300 hp that people can buy for a reasonable price and if they sold in huge quantities some company might think of a aluminum version, but don't think you'd ever see a race only piece would never be enough buyers.

There's plenty of cores out there, for someone to be able to recondition and CNC port, then sell as a recond. "HP" head.
Depends on price, would sure welcome it, vs all the chips I made doing up 2 slant heads..... (Then I still had to hand them off to a machine shop for the finish work like the actual "valve job," and shave) CNC would be faster, reproducible on many heads and programmable to port out as far as possible without grinding into a water jacket. (Cuz I'm sure I'm not the only one that has seen those pix of the band sawed head and all the thin "danger spots" as cast)

The head isn't aluminum, but I'm gonna just leave this (decades-old) ad on the bar; thread with much more pics here.
The fail there is that the reverse flow head doesn't have pushrods in the way to start with, and most gains in lightweight valvetrain comes at the valve, not pushrod/lifter.....like 95/5% but that is a fascinating vintage gem of a nugget You dug up there! Awesome, Thx again Dan!!

Take my money!! LOL. I know the intake port - water jacket bump is a bottle neck

I saw an OHC conversion kit for a SBC at San Diego swap meet about 25 years ago. Cams were right over the valves with the cogs sticking out oil sealed M/T valve covers. The new Colorado has the timing belt in the rear of the block IIRC...Not sure what this accomplishes in a slant head with the same valve size.
