I was wondering what the guys that are running TTI headers on your small block have done to keep from burning boots? Here are my #5 & #7 boots on my 408 small block,

I only have about 500 miles on the motor and I am using these DEI Titanium boot protectors from first startup. These are supposed to be good to 1800*.

I didnt know if there is some type of metal guard that would go between the header and insulator but there has to be something better.
Thanks
Rod

The sleeves will help but if anything is actually touching the header it wont last long.

You must use 45 degree wires on some headers. We have a set of headers we use to run engines on run stands if the motor is getting manifolds. The first video has those headers you probably have. Notice the wires are 45's and 5 & 7 run under the tube. We keep these wires for our run stand. They are taylor wires

The second video is a different style which you can use straight ends.

You need to get the correct wires made for your headers.

The sleeves are good to 1800. Not the boots.

How are your wires routed?

Here is the only pic I can find right now of the header. The wires are run from the top and they dont burn. Im asking about the boots. They cant be changed as they go down over the plug. Ive replaced them with a differnet boot that is supposed to be bendable but they are also as close as the ones in the pic i posted are so they will eventually burn as well.

I buy the MSD wires you cut to length and crimp the ends on. The ends can then be bent to whatever angle you need. Spend the money and buy the good msd crimpers, worth their weight in gold.

Wrap your headers with DEI Titanium header wraps.

Some great suggestions here and some nice looking engines as well. When I replaced the ends a few weeks ago I did use the MSD boots and wire ends and yes I have the crimper as well. Even doing that, the ends are extremely close. I guess Ill try running the wires as mopardude318 suggests and see how they fit. Mopardude318 what brand of headers do you plan on running?

Thank you. That engine is in my 74 power wagon, I’m using hedman elite headers. But I did the same plug wires in my dart with tti headers as well.

I have the same issue. Find a pair of these that fit your wires. Found mine on ebang. Cut the end and replace the boot.
Cheap and easy.

Where did you purchase the wire holders ? Are they metal with an insulator?
They are made by Billet Specialties available at Summit Racing. They are aluminum, no insulator. The MSD wires clip in nicely if you use a shot of CRC Silicone Spray.

I have the same headers.
I use MSD wires that have a bendable boot, just bend the boot away from the header.
No issues in 7000 + miles.
