Is a 3 speed wiper transmission teh same as a 2 speed?

-
When I converted to three speed wipers I used
3 speed motor P/N 3431624
3 speed switch P/N 3488764
3 speed wiper arm/ crank P/N 3431687
I didn't have to modify any of my original wiring just plug and play.
If I remember right the way that the wiper arm connects to the linkage is different depending on what part number/year wiper arm you get.
Using the above P/N wiper arm I did not have any problems connecting to my stock 71 Scamp 2 speed wiper linkage.

Motor, switch and transmission linkage have to match. The mount "area" on the motor where the crank goes is sized/shaped differently depending on 2 vs 3 spd, so a 2spd crank arm wont fit properly on a 3spd motor and vice versa. Hope that makes sense.
Devil chicken explained it better lol.

Ok cause I'm using the 3 speed wiper system from a 74 Swinger to put into my 71 Demon. So I'd need to pull it all?
If you have access to an complete system I would pull it all, that way you should be able to build one system out of two and 4speedragtop is correct as well the stud and nut where the wiper arm connects on a 2 speed is different than on a 3 speed

The "transmission" is part of the wiper motor so yeah they are different. The connecting linkage is specific for 3 speed as well. Yes, pull it all.
One thing im not sure about is the dash wiring. Im not sure if you can just plug in the 3 spd switch on your existing harness. Never looked into it that far.....just something else to consider / research.

I was able to use my 2 speed wiring for my three 3 speed system, I believe all of the magic happens in the switch

Something else I just thought of is check the donor cars washer bottle to see if it has an electric pump in it , you might want to pull the revivor/pump and its associated wiring as well if you wanted to upgrade from a washer fluid foot pump to an electric pump.

Honestly I like the foot operated pump. Its as simple as it gets and it just works. If I had the foot operated one already I wouldnt consider the electric one an upgrade.
Im thinking the electric pump was part of the 3 speed wiper package.

My cars really don’t ever see rain or snow so I leave the 2 speed and foot pump in my Demon. There is something about how simple life was in 1972. Most people will never know the difference and for me a lot of people just love seeing the car. But as I always state on here. “It’s your car so what ever you want!” Good luck. Let us know how you make out. Your reply is good for the archive of info.

Awesome thanks guys. I'm swapping cause the 6 pack air cleaner won't clear my 2 speed wiper motor. This car will never see rain but I don't wanna dent my air cleaner to make it clear.

Exact reason I converted, no way am I cutting a notch in my air cleaner to clear the 2 speed wiper motor

You need to swap the motor, along with the short arm bolted to the back of the 3 speed motor, and the long piece of linkage between the motor and the drivers side pivot. The pivot to pivot arms are the same. Change all of the bushings while you're at it! The wiring plugs right back up, and you just need to change the switch.

Yep, six pack required 3 spd wiper. I agree, as much as those base plates cost you dont want to go cutting on them.

You could get a wiper motor off a Diplomat or something. Bolts to the firewall the same, still a 2 speed wiper, but the motor is laid over like the 3 speed one. I think (but am not certain) that the arm even bolts on.

I started down the road a while ago and didn't finish the project, but I think there are others that have.
