Car shows- Something does not make sense

-
I think it's interesting how many people have forgotten that car shows used to have "new" Cuda's, Challengers, Mustangs, Superbirds etc. People put custom paint on them, shiny valve covers and N50's on slots. That's how it was.... So soon we forget...
You show me a 2017 challenger with N50 on 14x10s and I'll stop and look at it...but if it's got the wagon wheels they put on it now, you can keep it

Haha, well not exactly what I was talking about but yeah... lol

No I got your point, it's just that the car culture isn't the same, and what was brand new and cool in the 70 is now old and cool

But what is brand new now, is usually not even cool

You mentioned custom paint jobs
Do people even still do those?

Seems like everything custom colored now is a wrap
Like they just ate a ton of bazooka Joe

yeah it sucks now-a-days, but I'm thinking back then, the 70s cars were frowned on by the "old" guys too.

I do see custom paint, quite often. There's a local place (next county over) that builds wide bodies from B-bodies. Amazing work and great paint. Expensive as hell. I think the wrap thing is neat. I wouldn't wrap my E-body vert, but I see the appeal of being able to change it up more often.

I'm even warming up to what my kids like. I don't want a Subaru STI S209 (only 209 built), but damn that thing set me back in the seat. Do i want one? Nope, give me old iron every day. I respect the engineering though.

You ought to see the lavish affair we have at Christmas.....Strippers, booze, drugs and for the highlight, we kick a few puppies.

Hookers, blow, liquor... I was all set to like your post until you got to the puppy kicking part. I can see it now, you probably charge an entrance fee to the puppy kickers, then hand out trophies like "best puppy kicker in show".

/sarc

Has to do with the age of the car hobbiest. I’m 66 and when I was a budding motor head driving my 70 340 4speed Duster, the old guys were driving model A’s, 35 Ford’s, etc. But they got old and most died off. Same thing will happen to my generation. Then it will be Honda’s with CVTRTHBN TEC engines running free.

so how new is too new? i mean the challenger came out in what 08 or 09? the retro mustang that started it all was in 05. those cars are over 10 years old now. car shows in the day had cars newer then that at them.

the more modern muscle car owners still modify the hell out of them.. instead of chrome valve covers they are hydro dipped now. headers are still used, aftermarket rims and tires are still used. custom stripes are used. some have custom paint.. may not be that 70's style paint but its still custom.. ok you may not like the style but thats on you. they are out in force and modifying their cars just like the generation before only in the 2021 style and technology.

I guess theres a time and a place

My plow truck is wrapped and I'm fine with that
(I bought it from a buddy, so it has his company's name on it)

To be honest, I like the wrap better then the color of truck, and it's an extra payer of protection against scratches and road salt/debris

cruise nights in upstate ny are diering unless you call 15 cars a cruise night.

I've been to several shows were nice cars pull in, walk around for an hour or too then leave. I hate paying too but this is an option.

It's just the way it is. Want to do things different, put on your own show and see how it goes. OR, put the word out for the car guys in your area to meet up on a Friday or Saturday night at a local burger joint, just to hang out. BIG shows (Good Guys, etc.) charge both spectators AND participants and they also charge for parking.

My .02. I keep seeing brand new corvettes and challengers getting trophies at the fund raiser shows
