Hi everyone
Has anyone had there sniper equipped car tuned by a professional tuner on a dyno??
If you did were you happy with the results?
Is there anything specific to ask the tuner for or not to have the in the tune?
I appreciate any comments or suggestions.
I have a appointment next Tuesday to have this done to my car.

Have you made your own config file or is the dyno shop going to give you one to get started?

What is the combo and what is the application, drag car, street or...? Did you dyno the engine already?

I was wondering about this myself. It takes a while for the system to learn, a single WOT dyno session may not provide enough info for an overall tune especially for part throttle driving.

A buddy did said it made a world of difference on his big block 427 Chevy . Better fuel economy and power .

It’s a basically stock 340 4 speed car. Stock cam and heads and exhaust manifolds. Sniper setup with hyperspark distributor. Just a nice fun driver and occasional car show car. I’ve got about three hundred miles of driving while self learning on it now and it really runs pretty good. The engine has never been on a dyno. The shop I am taking it to has a lot of experience with Holley injection systems and they love them. I believe the big thing that they will be doing is playing with the ignition timing curve. According to the one guy there the sniper only tunes the fuel curve. Not the timing.
The shop does a lot of tuning on huge power race cars. And they have a excellent reputation.
ive had a couple of people tell me that the sniper is pretty good at self tuning but getting it professionally tuned will really make it run more like a modern FI car.
I’ll definitely be posting results of how it runs after it gets done.

Of course there will always be the differences between a dry Plenum port injection and wet Plenum throttlebody injection.
It will be interesting to see if there’s any substantial changes in the timing curves.Be sure to post your before and after timing settings and any modifications.
Please also let us know if they do any changes to the Snipers settings either something accessible from the Snipers own touchpad or anything that might only be available via a laptop connection.
i’m really interested in how this turns out and what the differences might be. Thanks for letting us know and posting this.

I suppose its always good to know what you have but honestly I’m not sure a dyno is going to provide any earth shattering insight for you. It sounds like a relatively mild street car which means that it’s going to spend a lot of time at part throttle. If you have the Sniper controlling timing then I’m not sure what the benefit of a dyno session would be? It will learn on it’s own and adjust the timing accordingly. Just have to make sure the timing is synced with the ECU.

It is true though that beyond the basic Sniper Wizard tune timing does need to be input manually. It’s really no different than a normal distributor but it’s plotted with the software.

Holley has videos on how to build custom timing tables, maybe watch one and see if it’s something you can do on your own. If i can do it anyone can.

I’m not expecting any big increases in power. I hope there is but I know that is not going to be the case. I’ve watched every Holley video and honestly I’m not that great at tuning or knowing what an engine wants or needs for a timing curve or fuel curve for that matter. In fact a few of my cars and trucks from way back were just locked out distributors at 38 degrees timing and a ignition kill switch to get it to start.
And I also know tuning by the seat of my pants is not accurate.
Also my laptop sucks!
And anymore I just don’t have a lot of spare time to do what I want
This guy I’m taking it to is local. Has an awesome reputation and actually travels the country tuning cars.
As I said the car as it is right now runs really good. It’s an absolute blast to drive. I am impressed with the base program from Holley and it’s ability to learn. I did a 100 mile round trip with it last weekend and it ran flawlessly. Several hot starts and never even a hiccup.
I don’t know really what kind of a difference he can possibly make to the car but the cost is reasonable and maybe I can learn a few things from him.
I am definitely looking forward to see and feel any differences he can make.

All of the TBI EFI kits out there will not learn timing. Meaning they will not adjust it based on anything other than what you tell it to do. They will learn fuel trims, tho.

No updates yet.
Guy cancelled on me Tuesday and rescheduled me for today.
Then canceled again today.
Hopefully next week.
