I bought a new aftermarket sending unit and bench tested it with my instrument cluster when restoring my dash. I could never get the sending unit adjusted to read accurately. I eventually found a NOS sending unit at Carlisle and guess what? I functioned perfectly when I bench tested it. I would get your original unit restored.
