The longer wheel base gave the 4 door maverick a better weight break....
 
I was there at the GatorNationals in Gainesville, FL. Some of the best times of my life. I never liked the Mustang II as a street car but like lots of other production vehicles, the pro stock treatment transformed them into art for me. Here are photos of the rental car that was used to replace their broken hatch. Probably some famous faces there checking it out.

I loved ALL of the pro stocks from the '70s, not just Mopars.

Don Hardy built both the Maverick and this Mustang II.
Oh yea, he built my Colt!
